I've managed to talk myself into buying 3 headsets for my PS4 since I bought it. First, I bought the Sony Gold. Not bad at all for $100. No real complaints other than the battery life and large ear cups. I sold them when the Turtle Beach Stealth series came out and picked up the Stealth 400's. Again, not bad. I liked the battery life and comfort of the mesh padding on the ear cups. Sound was great but was limited to stereo. Since then, I have taken back the 400's and exchanged them for the 500p. Sound is a bit bass heavy, but between the DTS surround presets and the EQ presets, you're likely to find something you like. The ear cup padding is a bit stiff, but feels like it will soften in time. Overall, after owning all three, I'd recommend the 500p.

  • Changed my mind in the store. Ended up walking out with the 500's as they were a lot more comfortable than a lot of reviews said...on my way home now with them.

  • Nice. If for some reason you can't seem to get your DTS presets (Music, Game, Movie, etc.) working after set up, try re-syncing your headset and dongle. The instructions weren't very clear in that respect. It's simple to do and worked for me. Enjoy.

  • I tried them for like an hour, so far so good. I think those presets do work because it allowed me to toggle...but I just left it on game. Quick question, but in the initial system setup where you select the sound output on ps4..the manual told me to select dolby 5.1....aren't these 7.1?

They are 7.1 "virtual surround" meaning that with only two 50mm speakers, true 7.1 can't be achieved so the sound is digitally processed. I see your point, though. It sounds like your presets work just fine. I just left mine on game, also, and use "bass and treble boost". I'm away from my PS4 at the moment, but I don't recall a setting available for 7.1. Next time I'm on I'll have to take a look.

Gotcha gotcha. By any chance, do these mute your tv when you're using them? During the initial setup, when I selected optical out as primary source of sound it muted it at first...then the sound came back on and I had to drop the volume manually.

  • Nope. I just hit the mute button on the tv remote while using the headset. Game audio still goes through the hdmi cable to your tv. There may be a setting to make game audio only come out the optical port for the headset but then you would be stuck using the headset every time you watch netflix or whatever. I kinda like it this way. Muting is easy and I like options.

  • Oh ok...I actually prefer it this way too. I was just wondering if it's not supposed to be this way and I was doing something wrong. So far so good otherwise, besides having to find the right balance point between chat and game audio, I like how they sound. I'm playing avengers Blu Ray with them right now and it sounds great...only gripe is they may be just a little to low, but not bad.

  • I'm most likely going to get the elite 800's and call it a day, mainly due to the rest of the functionality that it offers. (Phone, ear phones, etc.
