Sigh, I remember almost a year ago, when everyone was saying that destiny was going to have the whole solar system available for exploration. and that each planet was going to be the size of the campaign in reach. There were so many great ideas about how we were going to traverse space, and what we were going to do there.
I couldn't wait to play that game. I'm still waiting.
Now, granted, we were all foolish to think that this was all going to be possible. But, I'm still somewhat miffed at Bungie for not dissuading us of our overblown expectations. I think the reception for destiny would have been a lot more positive if expectations for the game weren't so high.

Man, those were the days! The anticipation was much more enjoyable the the actual game. I gobbled up everything I could about Destiny and Bungie. All the V-docs and interviews. That Destiny will always be the game I want... not the game I got. Destiny is a good game, but not the Epic video game experience I thought it was going to be. Not the Epic video game experience I believe many thought it was going to be.

exactly.
and especially not the game the huge marketing campaign made it out to be.
You speak the truth my friend. I really hope someday we get the Destiny they advertised in Destiny 2. [How sad is that statement?]

Agreed. I'm hopeful as well. but I've already pledged that i won't be pre-ordering or day one buying the next destiny. if the feedback on the game is positive after the first week or two, I'll pick it up then. bungie was one of the last devs that i was willing to trust enough to lay money down before the product was finished.

I'm 100% in agreement and will be equally as cautious (and skeptical) of all Bungie/Destiny new content going forward. They already got me on TDB and HoW, but never again.

It originally was that if you saw Activision's private screening and vid docs it's just content got cut in the name of Activision sales.

from everything I've read, it seems likely that activision may have drastically altered the direction and focus that destiny took in late development. That being said, in retrospect it seems just silly to have expected a total game world multiple times the size of reach. The only reason the rumours even persisted as long as they did was because a. bungie said nothing to dispel them and b. this was bungie, many people's pick for the top tier developer. If anyone was going to find a way to pack that much game space onto a disc it was going to be them.
