While this game looks cool, mmorpgs aren't on their dying breath. They are still going pretty strong. Look at WoW or Guild Wars.
Neverwinter and ESO are coming to console soon too. Hopefully Zenimax upped their game, but ehhh...

After reading this, the game seems much more comparable to Archage.

Major update! Adding the justice system so you can kill and steal from npcs will make the entire experience feel a LOT more like skyrim. Plus they are changing the entire leveling system after max level so again, its gonna be more like skyrim. Im super stoked for it honestly!

I'm not sure that changes much for me to be honest.
I'm not sure that changes much for me to be honest.
Damn, is there anything that would change it for you?

Less desolate areas and better quests/npcs
-
Less desolate areas and better quests/npcs
I find the areas to be more fullfilled than most mmos and the questing is one of the things about that game that makes it great. The stories that are told in the questing are far more detiled in ESO than any other mmo. Its the same style questing taken right from the elder scrolls games. I guess if you dont like Elder Scrolls questing then ESO isnt for you.

I love TES, but it isn't much like ESO. Also, WoW, LotR, EQ, and Guild Wars had interesting quest lines. I don't know where you're coming from to say they don't.

The attention to detail in the ES lore can be mind bogling

Personally, I prefer the stories told in Warcraft. That game has almost too much.

Edited by Psyntifik: 3/3/2015 9:26:36 PMWhy? Do some research... It's huge.
Why? Do some research... It's huge.
Ill explain it this way. You can actually take a college course dedicated to Skyrims lore because it is so detailed and applies to actually events in our own society. Sure WoW has some cool stories, but its still not nearly as intricate as the ES lore. WoW lore compared to ES lore is like comparing a full sized orange to a little "cutie". Sure they are both good, but the orange has soooo much more to offer. You would have to eat 3 cuties to match what you get from one orange.

Edited by Psyntifik: 3/3/2015 10:54:44 PMI find Elder Scrolls to be full of obscure, pretentious backstories that, though pretty interesting, don't hold much relevance to what I'm doing. And given that you can take a college course on zombies or Lady Gaga, I'm not that impressed by an Elder Scrolls course. Both Warcraft and Elder Scrolls have been expanding since the 90's. They are both large, they are both intriguing and they are both as viable as each other. I've seen your other posts and you seem like you're a die-hard ES fan who will just get overly defensive about the series. Please don't degrade my opinion because it's not the same as yours. I also don't see how you can apply ES knowledge in modern society. That just seems too unreal (but I think that about any game off the top of my head).

It comes from all the people who have been trying SOOO hard to make ESO look like crap for no reason.

Edited by Psyntifik: 3/3/2015 11:27:06 PMNah, I enjoy the game. I do think Skyrim was a little overrated, though. Eh! I just have my preferences. Oh! Sorry, I misread! Yeah, ESO got justifiably slated. It was okay, it just could have been a whole lot better. Like I said, I hope the console version has had a lot added to it, but with the removal of a sub, I'm a little dubious.

Agreed ESO was pretty bad at launch but if people want it to get better then they better start pushing through the bad and play the game so the devs can eventually make it what is was suppost to be from the start. If nobody plays the game then the devs will give up on it and it will forever be a failed attempt. (Even though i dont think its a failure as of now) lol

I picked Skyrim up the same time as The Witcher 2, and I found The Witcher to be way more interesting. I also clocked more hours on Oblivion than Skyrim. They dropped their sub for ESO. Without coming across too critical, it seems like they are giving up already.

Personally i dont think sub based games are worth it these days. People dont want to feel like they are forced to play because they paid a month sub. How does WoW hold onto its subs for so long? I have no idea! ESO will still have its optional sub for the diehard players, like me. So it can still be a very profitable game with the b2p w/cash shop. As long as they dont add pay to win items in shop

Content and regular updates. Decent sized expansions. Consistent server uptime. You may not understand it, but Blizzard have held onto their subscribers for 10 years without anybody really complaining... They must be doing something right.

When WoW release it had a giant list of problems, just like any other mmo at launch. But they still managed to keep millions of players. For the first 6 months of ESO, zenimax was pushing out more updates and content addons than i had ever seen in a mmo. Why did it still fail? Because its not WoW. Simple as that. No other game is ever going to match the revinue WoW has pulled off. Unless its some crazy virtual reality game that offers more than we could possibly imagine, sub based games are a dying breed.

WoW survived because of how innovative it was. It's success is because it broke barriers when it launched.
-
WoW survived because of how innovative it was. It's success is because it broke barriers when it launched.
Thats true. That kinda proves my point saying unless this next sub based game is something so unique that i couldnt possibly begin to imagine how it would play out (other than a virtual reality game) the era of sub based games is over.
-
I wouldn't say it was over. Companies just need to stop mimicking it's formula. I wouldn't say it has much to do with a subscription, I support subs if they are put to good use. But sub or not, MMO games need to branch away from that formula otherwise they just won't pull it off as well and then crash and burn.
