I bought my PS4 for Destiny. Dragon Age was great and I'm looking forward to FFXV and Uncharted 4.
We can slide back for shiz and giggles too...
I bought my PS3 when Uncharted 2 and MGS4 were out.
I bought my PS2 for Soul Reaver 2, among other things that I can't remember anymore.
I held out a long time with my SNES until the PS1 was out. MGS and FFVII were the incentives.
I got a SNES because it looked freakin' awesome in the Nintendo Power magazine. It turned out to be my favorite console ever.
I don't remember why I got a Genesis, but Mutant League Football and Starflight were almost always inserted.
I got a Turbo Graphix 16 because it was awesome. It had a lot of very strange games, but it had some of the best action games, JRPGs and shooters I'd ever played at that point.
My grandma bought me a NES that came with Duck Hunt and SMB. I also had NES Golf, which I was terrible at.
My first console was a Sega Master System. We had an Atari 2600, but I was never all that interested in it (except Human Cannonball). I had a handful of SMS games, most of which seemed cool, but ultimately disappointed me.
Before that, I used to play with physical toys... And dirt, dirt was awesome. There is a lot of dirt in Arizona.

No N64 or Dreamcast?! Blasphemy! I had to play Atari and NES at a friend's house because my ma thought video games would rot the brain. Was forced to start out as a PC gamer because PCs were "educational." I got to pick out one game. That game was "Codenamed: ICEMAN" because the cover looked like something from James Bond. Mowed many lawns and bought a Genesis because of how impressed I was with Sonic at a friends house. I eventually upgraded it with a Sega CD and 32X... I'm sure you know how silly that looked. (Consoles used to be "upgradeable." ;) ) Saw Doom at a computer store. Mind, blown. Resulted in first gaming related upgrade (I could play it if I made the screen super tiny though). Got a PS1 because it was new and looked awesome. Seemed like it only launched with like 2 games though. Got Ridge Racer because it had "arcade graphics." Got an N64 because Super Mario 64 looked AMAZING (it was). Bought a Dreamcast because a local used game store had a Japanese one before it was released in the US. Felt so 1337 g4m3r. A girlfriend bought me a PS2 because she wanted me to hang out at her house more... lol I believe me and some friends were into epic Tekken Tag Tournament battling at the time. I think it was also around this time that I stopped buying consoles when they were released because a friend at work turned me on to emulation and I started going through the extensive back catalog of classics (along with PC games in general). I was mostly PC gaming when the 360 came out. A friend convinced me to get one to battle with him. Something about the 360 converted me back over to mostly console gaming. There were numerous Nintendo (and other) handhelds peppered in there with just about every console ever picked up used at some point (no Turbo Graphics 16 though :( ).
lol at your reply. Legos and TMNT were my favorite physical toys. While dirt was pretty cool, nothing beat the cardboard box my ma got when she bought a new refrigerator... :)
