I think you are sort of getting. However you're missing that children inherently trust people, especially adults. They trust adults because from a young age they have to for survival and there is no reason to not trust them. As an adult, breaking this trust is despicable. People are saying cheat. However - Daily game culture is filled with posts, web sites, streams and YouTube videos of game exploits and cheeses. IGN and Kotaku and major news outlets regularly report of such things. Many, many streamers make a living broadcasting such aspects of games. The kid was doing the same. He was not in a malicious way trying to "cheat" anyone other than the mechanics of the game. He did not give out personal info. He trusted Kirmit with share play. I recall a situation from my youth. Friends and I were at a local skate board competition. At the end. One of the older teens/ 20 year old came up to us. He ask my friend about the new skate board he was holding. My friend had just got it last week for his birthday. The older boy said the board looked really nice, could he try it? My friend handed it over. The older boy skate away with the board as the 4 of us (11 years old) watched in shock. At that point in time we were still trusting to have never imagined that someone would steal a kids skateboard. Why? Because theft is wrong and against the law. What the kid did was trust an adult. What Kirmit did was wrong on many levels. That's really it.

Obviously not. What if anything Bungie does is another matter entirely. My story about the skateboard incident was to point out that children are inherently trusting. Really, there should be nothing wrong with that. It would be great if you could approach people with the idea of trusting them. The fact we can not is really sad. Bottom line, Kirmit violated the trust of a minor knowing full well what he was doing and that the minor would fall for it. An Adult may have fallen for the trick as well, but an Adult would likely have known better, that most people are garbage and you can never trust anyone from the internet.

  • There are MUCH worse ways of taking advantage of children, and this child is fortunate that their lesson in trusting people had such a low price. Rewarding a mistake makes the lesson he learned less effective, which increases the chances he'll trust too quickly again and have much more serious consequences.

I'll agree with you there. But Kirmit being an adult is a malicious and horrible person who has been doing this to people since October. He should face consequences for his actions lest he continue to go on and take this behavior to more serious levels.

  • We also agree 100% there. Back to your story, while I don't think the skateboard maker or the community should have bought a brand-new upgraded model skateboard for your friend, I still expect the police to find the thief and serve justice on him. With Kermit, we have accusations going back months, as you say, and then AFTER those we have a video confirming at least one case of it, and this evidence gives support to those accusations. Bungie and Sony should "Invite him to no longer be their customer", as former XBL banhammer Stepto would say. Account deleted, all PSN trophies wiped, etc. Digital death penalty for the murder of guardians. :)

In our case Police did nothing. Had no way of know who the older kid was, what town he was from, etc. We (the 4 of us) all worked extra and pitched in to get our friend a new board. And we learned to be far less trusting. Which for the price of a skateboard was probably worth it for us going into junior high and on into high school and I've never forgotten that incident. So as you say. Life lesson learned. I think this entire debacle brings to light the newer modern issues with the internet and protecting ourselves and our children and our society from horrible people.

  • That's not what this is about. Plus if the skateboard company heard about it they might have. The bottom line is an adult took advantage of a child and got caught. He should be banned and that's it. Ban his account for violating TOS. In my opinion bungie should reset the kids shit or throw him some gear.

  • I'm all about banishing that jerk that did the deleting. Don't confuse my opposition for giving the kid free stuff with supporting what Kermit did. He shouldn't be allowed to be on PSN anymore, period. There was a record of him violating the ToS and Bungie should delete his stuff.
