oh great more ways for the government to steal people's property. We should totally do this because taxes totally aren't theft. In fact we're so far in hey why not tax everything? Getting payed to work? Taxed. Buying something? Taxed. Owning a -blam!-ing piece of land with a house on it! Taxed! Why not tax breathing or sleeping? Those sound like great -blam!-ing ideas!

Oh, look. More taxes = theft hyperbole. Cute.

You like having roads that aren't completely decrepit, right? The whole FDA thing is good, right? Cancer research? Defense? None of this matters to you?
-
Way ahead of you
-
Holy shit the autism is strong in this one
-
You do know that taxes pay for the military and state/federal infrastructure, as well as the salaries of government workers right?
-
just like stolen money pays for thugs in a gang and muggers?
-
Gangs and muggers don't maintain roads or fight fires or defend the nation from foreign threats or negotiate international trade deals. Your analogy doesn't make sense.
-
Yes governments do do those things but you assume that the government is the only thing that can do those things. The ends do not justify the means. If I stole $20 from you then bought a present using $15 for you and pocketed the $5 for me then is that morally right? Now then if I said if you give me $20 I'll get you a present, preferably better than any of my competitors, and you voluntarily said yes here's $20 and I got you a present then that's morally right because it doesn't infringe on anyone's rights.
-
That's the thing. You do agree to it. By being a United States citizen, you agree to pay taxes. We are all responsible for the upkeep of our nation, " a government of the people, by the people, for the people".
-
Are you sure because that sounds an awful lot like slavery. If you're born in a huge chunk of land you have to follow some rules. If you own a part of land on a huge chunk of land you have to follow some rules... Yeah... why don't you take your social contract and stop shoving it in my face next to a gun because I live near you.
-
So...what? We abolish all laws? Get rid of the government? Have anarchy in the streets? If humanity was perfect, we wouldn't need laws, or governments, or even money. But we're not. These things that you seem to hate help to maintain an organized society. No one is forcing you to live here. If you don't like it in a modern society, there are plenty of third world countries out there you could move to.
-
Edited by A Pumpkin Spice Bagel: 2/21/2015 7:28:26 PMYes Can you prove anarchy won't work? Read what I said above about government not being necessary for those and how they do it immorally. more social contract bullshit that's actually slavery.
-
Somalia is going really well right now, isn't it?
-
Ask Africa and the Middle East of government is necessary.
-
Anarchy would only happen for awhile. Humans are social, so we would eventually make our own social structure, very similar to our system now.
-
Well when we have these mega churches that make millions of dollars and its all going in the "preachers" pockets then I see an issue. And taxes aren't stealing, its pitching in for services that you may or may not need at some point along with everyone else.
-
Do you believe in the right to property? Also if taxes aren't theft then how come if I refuse to pay taxes then I get shot or kidnapped and put in a cage for a certain amount of time?
-
Well, you don't get shot or kidnapped: you're summoned to court with a piece of paper.
-
Now your going off on some kind of anti-government tangent. If you don't pay taxes what usually happens is wage garnishment.
-
Ah but I am anti government. It's just right now instead of discussing the immorality of almost everything a government does I'm discussing the immorality of taxation.
-
OK so you don't like highways, running water, sewer, free health care programs, environmental protection, firefighters, law enforcement, the judicial system, the department of transportation, having a military, etc?
-
Listen I respect your choices. You're free to believe these things and I would never dream of harming you over your beliefs. If you want to take the government out on a date and praise it's actions that's fine. But will you extend this respect to me? Am I free to disagree with you and then to act on that disagreement as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone's rights? Will you send men in costumes to take me away to a cell for a certain amount of time if I don't do what you want?
-
I was never disrespectful, I was asking you a legit question about your viewpoint.
-
I'm not accusing you of being disrespectful (I'm accusing the criminal system you love so much) I'm simply asking you if you would respect my ideas and the actions I take because I believe in these ideas. I'm asking you if you would send someone to invade my home and kidnap me because I don't want to do something you do. So will you?
