Pre-ordering used to be a thing when stores only got limited copies of a game. So a pre-order would guarantee you a copy.
These days, big chain stores get so many copies that it's not worth pre-ordering because you're just making a commitment to buy something that's not even out yet. Pre-orders are bad because it's handing over money for a product that's not out yet.

I dont go in there anymore lol. Gamestop loves pre order because ppl buy a new game without reading reviews/watching gameplay. Then they say -blam!- this game and sell it right back to gamestop. Gamestops slogan: Are you going to preorder?

I agree with preordering not being the smart (although I do it for games I know I'm going to buy, GTA V was the latest). I don't see how it negatively impacts games the way so many people claim. If preorder sales made up like 50%+ of total sales then I could see it as a serious problem. Even 20%+ might mean something. Preorders don't get anywhere near those numbers. I think preorders are mostly used as a means of knowing how many games to print/ship and give projections on how well it might do.
