The process I have described does the same thing as telemetry but does not cost extra (glimmer, strange coins, etc). And you do not have to wait for Xur to show up at the Tower.

We could go even more in depth and tell'em that if you upgrade your guns even up to just the last three dmg upgrades and then dismantle it you also have a chance at a Telemetry of the type of gun dismantled along with the energy.. You're the teacher tho...not me.. :)
