Only anime that ever made me cry was Toradora! In clannad, I guess there were too many characters to get emotionally attached to
But there's the answer to your question, emotional attachment, if you see the character develop and grow you get attached kind of like a best friend from your childhood

So I've started watching Toradora. It's actually pretty good, from the way the cover art looked I thought it was going to be some Chibi thing. Thanks for the recommendation!

No problem :) I hope you enjoy it

After the first 8 episodes in the second half I had to sit there and tell myself that it's just an anime. Still cried.

They purposely make characters realistic, like what they do and how they act to certain situations so you can relate to them. In our minds even though we see things that clearly aren't reality, because we can connect to the characters on a somewhat personal level, I guess you can say we're able to feel what they feel :o

This is why I have a love hate relationship with anime in general. Even while watching SAO I reared up a little, but it was never as bad as Clannad.

That's what makes it so great (: it's like watching soaps only a whole hell of a lot more entertaining, there's nothing wrong with the feels for fictional characters in a non-existent setting.. It's all part of being human

If I can find another anime that can draw me in like this one did and actually make me feel like this, I would die.

From what, a heart attack? I know, it'll hurt so good
-
Most likely a heart attack lol. It will be worth though.

I will definitely have to check that anime out then.
