Attack determines the level you optimize damage. 331 delivers a possible 100% damage to level 33 enemies (if you are level 33) take the first two numbers of attack. That is the level damage possible. So a level 30 with a max 300 attack weapon will do negligible damage to a level 33 enemy compared to a 32 with a 331 weapon. Impact is just the max damage available to said weapon. So attack+enemy level+your level= optimal damage. Impact = damage from said equation.

My fatebringer is doing same damage to lvl32 thralls/acolytes (oneshotting thralls at Crota fight on normal mode) as to lvl30 thralls when I am level 32.... how is it possible by your theory?

Edited by Fourco4st: 2/11/2015 12:33:02 PMLevel 300 weapons are maxed out at level 30 enemies. Once your light level reaches your weapons max level, 30 and 300 in this case, your damage maxes out! So even if you're level 36, you will never do more damage then a level 30 with a 300 weapon. On the other hand, if your weapon attack increases to 331, being level 32 as we are now has its advantages, but still isn't 100%. Long story short, light level needs to be equal to your weapons attack level plus the enemies level for maximum damage. If the enemy level is higher (32) (as in your case) than your weapon attack (300) level, the damage will be the same as an enemy with an equal (30) level as your weapons attack (300).

Put your armor down to lvl20, grab fatebringer at 300 attack and shoot lvl20 mob in the strike to the head. You will do 1505 precision shot. Your level has nothing to do with weapons attack.

Edited by Fourco4st: 2/11/2015 1:39:48 PMIt has everything to do with it! You're talking lower levels not higher. I never said a 331 weapon wouldn't do more damage if your light level is lower than 33. That's basically what you're implying. I'm talking maximum damage! If you're level 19 against those level 20 enemies I'm sure your damage output will decrease. But if you're equal you'll get the maximum damage. That's my point! Once you go over 20 with your armor nothing changes when dealing with level 20 enemies and that's exactly what I'm trying to state. But once the enemy level is higher than your light level, damage output decreases.

"Level 300 weapons are maxed out at level 30 enemies. Once your light level reaches your weapons max level, 30 and 300 in this case, your damage maxes out!" And I am trying to say that my 300 attack fatebringer maxed my damage at level 20 which is in contradiction with your hypothesis.
-
Although what I said is correct, I can see how it could be misunderstood. I was only explaining the correlation of light level, attack level, and enemy levels when trying to reach maximum damage.
-
Because dmg only get nulled if you are lower lvl if you are higher then the mob it would act as just 100% dmg
-
Same damage without changing gear? Or you're still just 1 shotting them and it's 8 or so percent less?
-
Same damage. I literaly see same numbers above their heads.
-
Hmmm. My voc has decreased damage from the abyss to crota.
-
At level 32 and CE normal at same kind of enemies (thralls/acolytes, knights can have higher armor and every mob has higher amount of HP which makes them lasts longer, but damage was same)?
-
Ah. That's it. Try hard mode with 33's. Your level is the same/ higher so you're doing 100% to any enemy. If you go against an increased level enemy, that is going to drop your damage output.
-
I dont argue about that higher level enemies have damage reduction, but its not the point. It has nothing to do with WEAPON ATTACK, its just matter of player/enemy level difference. Thats it. Weapon attack has nothing to do with it. Nothing. You will have same percentual damage reduction with fatebringer (300), Word of Crota (331) or Necrochasm (339). Weapon attack is just something to help you recognize "level", "tier", "dps" etc. of the weapon. There is no need to have weapon attack, your light level and enemy level in harmony to make maximum possible damage. Even lvl 20 player can do maximum weapon damage with lvl33 weapon (hawkmoon 331) to level 20 enemy. You dont need to by level 30 to maximaze damage with 300 attack weapons. I hope you understand what I mean.
-
I understand what you're saying, but it does matter when you're dealing with enemies on par with your weapons attack. Level 33 enemies need to be shot by level 33 weapons held by level 33 guardians for maximum damage.
-
So you think that my old fatebringer with 300 attack with maximum precision damage of 1505 will do less damage than 1505 to lvl 33 thrall when I will be level 33 too? I dont think so. Because when I am lvl 32 i am doin still same 1505 to lvl 32 thrall even with 300 (=lvl30) weapon.
-
No I'm saying a level 32 weapon will!
-
And that why attack matters
