I believe this would be an awesome feet to accomplish. I believe the main concern would be backwards compatibility with the older gaming systems. Obviously the XB1 and PS4 would be able to host a larger scale event over the 360 and PS3. Knowing this I don't think Bungie would implement because they do not want to cause an issue between older and newer gen consoles. It would be amazing to see 20+ Guardians in one location spread out defending / attacking a stronghold.
Honestly they could go even further if they wanted and they could implement a multi stage control setup. 3 objectives 3 fireteams and you have to control all 3 for as long as possible. There are many new living world game types they could bring into PvE that would make this an amazing experience.
I just wonder why this type of activity was never added to the game. I assume this is because they want the game to have a 2 year life span before they can spin off Destiny 2. I have put in countless hours grinding, raiding, controlling, clashing etc. This would really bring some life back into the game. The expansion will die off within a month of release because the content is barely enough to keep the game alive. I really hope something along these lines comes into play.
