The Tower is under siege

What if while you were playing Destiny you heard an urgent message coming from the tower? Maybe it would be from your Vanguard Mentor, maybe even from our Beloved Cryptarch. This message might come through your headset like a dying whisper, or a panicked call to arms popping up like you've accepted a patrol mission. This message would be very clear, enemies approaching, defenses failing, we need you now, we need you all now. I'm talking about the ultimate community event, team up now, or understand that all could be lost. Finish your pvp game, speed to the end of your pve mission, jump to orbit, and head home. The Fallen are breaking through, The Vex are massing their attack, The Cabal are making their final stand. The Tower will fall. Unless through their strength together, the Guardians stand to protect what is theirs. Snipers to the balcony, Titans to the front, it's going to be a wild ride. It will take 24 hours to get the Tower's defenses back online, you'll respawn in the special events area where the Tower's staff will be waiting, eager to provide their services if if means saving the last beacon of light from waves of enemies stronger than any one could defeat alone. Let's win this together.

When I read this I imagined a ton of top lvl players jumping into the fray and having a blast. However, I also imagined that this event happened on a Saturday, and all of the guardians jumping up and down once the voice announced the incoming event. As soon as the event dropped all of the guardians would run towards the mobs of darkness and once halfway there they would hear slow falling footsteps and stop to look where it was coming from. Out of his two day hide away would come Xür, slowly padding towards the center of the tower. Once he gets to the center of the clearing, he'll slowly turn his body towards the minions of the darkness. With his left hand he will pull out Hawk Moon, and with his right he'll pull out The Last Word. He'll ever so slowly aim both hand cannons towards the hoards of enemies and then will do something so terrifying it sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it. He'll smile. With a speed rivaling that of a 17 year old running away from a busted frat party, he'll have dozens of tendrils shoot of his robes, all holding exotic weapons. Right in front of him one tendril will hold the Vex Mythocast and a lowly dreg will see it and whisper, "That stupid gun is so brok-" But he won't be able to finish his sentence, because Xür only let's words of praise for his wares fall upon his ears(?). The rest of the hoard will stand still looking down at the unfortunate dreg, not daring to move an inch. Finally a Praetorian in the back with a voice that probably sounds better than Dinklebots will bellow, "Retreat!" Unfortunately for them, Xür is the only one that gets to make an uneventful farewell. (and have a couple people complain about it) Xür fires all of his amazing weapons and the Bad Juju at the helpless masses of unsuspecting evil doers. In a brilliance of flashy bullets and heaps of dead bodies- the shear number warranting a look at the T rating of the game- it's all over too soon. Xür puts all of his weapons away and goes back to the hallway from where he came. At the entrance he turns around, and slowly raises one fist. The guardians erupt... all except the warlocks. Xür raises his brow, and pulls out a pair of Sun Breakers. The warlocks start to boo, some yelling slanderous names. He pulls out the Vex Mythocast and points it out into the crowd... Silence. He puts the Vex Mythocast back and holds the Sun Breakers high into the air. All of the Guardians erupt into whoops and cheers. He puts the Sun Breakers away and looks towards Rahool. He puts up a hand as if to wave and Rahool mimics him. He turns his palm around and gives him the bird and keeps it up as he makes it back to his home away from home. By the time he gets back to his spot, the applause is deafening. Edit
Thanks for all the likes and encouraging comments.
• If the tower was under attack I'd wait till the cryptarch was -blam!- and killed then save it. Need to make good on that pile of crud that whispers to you over in Cosmodrome

    • Also at the end you could have like a huge boss that needs everyone to come and defeat it or it will destroy every thing in its path.

      • My buddy and I were just talking about that the other day. We thought it would be cool if the hive began to invade and make their way through the city below the tower. The entire siege would last from a day to a week and would require a good majority of the community to help fend off the invasion. Each mission would require you to protect an area of the city kind of like the Halo firefight. If you succeed then the guardians can hold that area but if you fail then the hive will own that area. If too many guardians fail to hold their ground the hive will eventually make their way to the tower where the guardians will make one final effort to defend their home. Three man fireteams turn into six as the hordes becoming stronger and more relentless. The community has to give it their all or risk losing the tower. Failure means no more bounties, Cryptarch, Vanguard, or strikes until the tower is retaken. If you succeed in defending or retaking the tower the missions take a more offensive stance as you now have to retake the areas you failed to hold until the hive is finally pushed back. Think about how epic it would be, you'd round up your buddies in a fireteam and the Speaker would send you to a part of the city that must be defended like a hospital or street. There you would fend off waves of hive, ammo running dangerously low, you desperately try not to be overrun. Suddenly, when you think you have the street secured hundreds of thrall come sprinting around the corner. You and your team take position and unload whatever bullets you have left. Your Warlock unleashes his ability and blows away the front chunk of the wave, only for those thrall to be replaced by fifty more. The hunter and titan launch a couple salvos from their launcher, temporarily pushing the flood of enemies back. One by one each of you run out of bullets, yet the thralls are still pouring down the street screaming in defiant rage. At first it's only the fastest thralls that break the line, a few, but they are quickly dealt with by the knife of the hunter. But the number of thralls breaking the line begins to swell and you quickly find yourself surrounded. The hunter makes a desperate attack and unleashes his blade dancing ability, only to be swallowed by the mass. The Warlock is consumed by the horde shortly after. The crowd has thinned and with the last of his strength the Titan slams his mighty fists into the ground, disintegrating the remaining thrall. You're fire team has successfully secured the street, barely. A couple streets over another fireteam was not so lucky. They were quickly overrun and failed to protect the civilian evac point. Thousands of citizens are killed at the site. More will die now that there is no place for evacuation. Once those guardians have recovered from their engagement they will be sent back out to retake the evac point. However the enemy will now be stronger and will have had time to prepared defenses. Players who prefer or have to play solo can either hold points on a smaller scale OR run reconnaissance on areas held by the Hive. Searching for generals and princes, that once identified can late be assassinated by a strike team or lone wolf. At the end of it all the players and fireteams who held or retook the most points are awarded with emblems, shaders, perhaps ascendant shards and energy. Everyone else is given complimentary tacos and a pat on the back from the Speaker.

        • I'm sorry, if I received a distress call from the Cryptarch, I'd tell him to shove it. All the glowy crap I've given that man, and what does he give me. Greens and Blues. No. If he wants my help, he can pay for it in Strange Coins and Exotics.

          • When people started posting "Defend the Wall" posts a while back, I didn't pay much attention, but the more I've been thinking about it, I think this could be an awesome event. Gather a team of 6 (match made) and just throw wave after wave of baddies at them to defend the wall. Have different difficulty settings based on level etc. I'd play it definitely!

            • The only problem with this is network capabilities, it would be fine on a small scale zone like when you enter a strike, where each player/fireteam is in their own zone but On a larger scale it could cause a complete mess like lag and or disconnects.. It's a great idea though, it's been knocked about for a while now :-)

            • Screw the tower. They should do something like that on the planet. A week long event where a certain race is invading the earth. All across the cosmkdrome dropships are flying in and the community has to kill X amount of enemies to repel the attack.

            • Massive scale combat probably is too much to ask for given network and hardware limitations. However, what about zone defense? A map of the city would be shown as a grid. You win or lose grids depending on individual fire team results. The story can start by having a massive attack penetrating the wall in several locations. You can set the panicked atmosphere by having citizens run by screaming, etc. Random matchmaking or fire teams can pick city blocks to "hold the line" until reinforcements can leapfrog your position to push back the fallen. The timer would count down until the next group of guardians can make it to the front lines. If you get wiped out, Guardians lose the block and must win it back. The closer to the Traveller the Fallen get, the more concentrated they are requiring high level people. Further out, low levels can help because the fallen are more spread out. The more outer grids won, will make the inner grids easier to defend, making lower level guardian contributions valuable. It could be a weekly event resulting in the Fallen "winning" and gaining a foothold in the city or the Guardians winning and pushing out Fallen. New missions can be given out to help gather materials to repair the wall.

            • As a Titan, I would of course answer the call. We are the wall on which the darkness breaks. We held the six fronts before. We will do it again.
