A Look Into the BF4 Beta

I finally got to play the BF4 beta this weekend. All in all, it's decent. Here's a list of the few positives and negatives i've found by playing a few rounds. Positives Gameplay is a lot smoother than BF3. I'm thinking the FPS has increased to around 40 frames. While playing with the AK-12 I noticed it's iron sights are nostalgically similar to the ak's in BF2 Had my first "only in battlefield" moment when I shot a helicopter pilot out of his chopper, jumped off a building, landed in the chopper mid air, bumped the ground once, then took off. It was FRIGGEN AWESOME!! new pick up weapons. the new vehicle controls are better comma rose!! being able to completely disable your hud (minus the riticule bloom) the new designs are nice Negatives Not that much different than BF3, as King put it BF3.5 destruction still seemed minimal and scripted Limited cover on top of buildings Elevators teleport instead of go up textures arn't really finished (still a beta so subject to change) Destroying Shanghai tower can get repetitive Dominion is a giant fustercluck No ATV's Self Repairing helicopter swimming and water are a little buggy you can get hung up in some spots around the collapsed tower and not be able to get out Battlepacks seem very sketchy (Pay2win sketchy) So far I'm enjoying myself but it seems like one of those games I could get bored of quick.

  • I agree even on pc the destruction seems minimal. Maybe I am just spoiled by bad company but it's one thing I missed in BF3 and BF4 seems to lack as well.

    • The counter-knife system looks very broken. Is it really now the first person to knife someone in the front always dies, or does it become a button mashing contest? But yeah, I'd call it Battlefield 3 1/3 at the most. They've changed a couple of UI and system stuff, but overall not much has changed.

      • My "Only in Battlefield" moment from the beta was that I spotted some snipers from B after the skyscraper fell near C. I swam to the building and went up the elevator, knifing both the snipers in the back. I jumped down, and whilst parachuting, noticed a chopper, took out my RPG-7 and shot down it in mid-air. BADASS.

      • Seemed like an expansion pack. I wasn't impressed.

        • So in other words it's nothing more than a DLC for BF3?

        • Same here. It looks good, but on the same hand it doesn't look like much of an improvement over BF3. I might get it when it's 20 bucks or so, but its not the kind of thing I'd get on day one.
