WHY! Disappearing Ascendant Challenge Chests
Do you guys think chests should stay available until opened by the 1st guardian Or do you like that the chest disappears? Here’s a situation where the disappearing chest can have a negative impact.
Earlier today, my fiancé and I finally completed our 1st ascendant challenge (week5)...you know the one with the long platforming path and spinning boulders. Upon completion, the chest appeared but my fireteam member died at the very end of the battle. So she had to make her way all the way back down. We’re thinking, no biggie, we got 5 minutes left on the timer. So I’ll wait and guard this glorious chest until she makes it back down to me and we will open the chest together. But by the time she made it half way back down, poof...chest disappears. Now, some of you might be thinking I opened the chest to make it disappear on her. Here’s the thing, we play together in the same living-room with TVs side by side so that action wouldn’t go unseen. Plus I saved the video.
Long story short, we both missed out on the chest and bounty completion. I missed out because I chose not to open the chest and she missed out because it disappeared before she had a chance to get back to it. The weird thing is, Bungie still gave us the triumph for completing the ascendant challenge. We tried to restart the challenge but the gateway wouldn’t appear again. So we will tackle the next challenge next week...technically this week...you guys get what I mean. Just feel, the chest shouldn’t disappear until someone opens it.
Not that this will make any difference but I’d like to hear your positive thoughts...Do you guys think chests should stay available until opened Or do you like that the chest quickly disappears?

1 ReplySame happened to me last week waiting for a friend to jump down. This week I managed to solo the boss but got back stabbed by a thrall before I opened the chest. Instantly kicked to the start to find when I respawn the portal is gone, it doesn't count as a completion and I can't start again until the next day. Not the best way to make you want to repeat it all again.

I have to believe this shit is bugged.you should be able to revive your teammates in there.the portal should respawn faster and when you havent earned the loot or bounty. This week people are killing the boss and getting pushed off from the phalanx that dosent despawn fast enough.

This is why it's better to try and solo these things if you can. I soloed last week's and this week's. I've been on both ends of it, the one who dies and misses the chest, as well as the one who reaches the chest while a teammate dies and misses it.

1 ReplyThe chest has a hidden timer based on when the last enemy is killed. It is like 200 seconds or so based on details posted elsewhere.

1 Replyif you get carried and cant get to the chest, i dont see why the game should let you have it. Ive done it with a bunch of friends who cant jump properly so they had to learn the hard way lol But I think it wasnt made for fireteams, they probably wanted us to solo them. Soloing ascendant challenges is probably the most fun way to do them anyway

We didn't use the exit portal and just jumped off to wipe. It reset the challenge and we did it again.

after this happening to me few times when running with other folks I just do the challenges solo now there not that hard after you reach 560 or above, it just a pain cos you have to do it flawless

14 RepliesThey’re all super easy to do solo so what’s the big deal. Also if you don’t know how to work with the mechanics of the ascendant challenges by now then you’re probably barely even completing them anyway lol.
