Truth to Power - Eris, Medusa and Quria

"How can I prove to you that I'm really Eris Morn? Not Medusa, not Riven, not Quria, not Dûl Incaru, not the Witch-Queen Herself? I don't know. Will you believe me? [No] Will you scour these pages for proof or disproof? [Yes] Will you upload these files to your networks, share them, call in Warlocks and Cryptarchs to catalogue and dissect everything I've said? [Of course] Will this manuscript become the foundation of another teetering edifice of theory and anticipation? [Heck yes]" Hey guys, happy Spooktober! I finally want to crack Truth to Power, the currently unavailable lore book. It´s very confusing and I want to see who´s behind it. This post won´t deal with Savathuns plan, Dul Incaru and the Dreaming City, just with Eris, Medusa and Quria. I have posts on basically everything else that is revealed in the book. I recommend to everyone to read these entries through whatever means, it´s very interesting and reveals so much about what´s currently happening and will happen in the future and much more. It will also greatly help you in understanding this post. ------------------------------------------------- First, I´ll summarize the events in Truth to Power very briefly [I already did this in great detail, but my laptop decided to delete everything I had written so far, so I´ll cut the summary short for now. The summary was planned to be it´s own post]. Truth to Power follows a narrative, in which you first get contacted by Eris Morn. She reveals her backstory and past life and how she helped defeat Oryx. The message glitches out and it is revealed that Eris didn´t sent these messages, but rather a golden age AI called Medusa, who is uploaded to the Dreaming City. She says she needs our help and explains what is happening and happened in the Dreaming City. She then crashes and we, the guardian, enter a vex simulation. It is run by Quria, Blade Transform who reveals a whole lotta stuff, including that she apparently created Medusa as a way to talk to us. Medusa needs our help to stop Savathuns plan in the Dreaming City. Then, a simulation of Dul Incaru enters the simulation and shows us two Hive verses detailing what Savathun is up too. She then says that she wrote them to understand and predict her mother. A seemingly new but similar simulation starts. Medusa now tells us to that Quira compromised her systems and that we need to escape the simulation. We manage to do so. Medusa messages us again and details and summarizes everything that has been revealed about the situation of the Dreaming City and the causal loop. Next, Eris messages us once more that she was behind everything that happened before and that she made up Medusa to cover her first attempt at talking to us, as it was embarrassing to her. So, everyone is pretending to be someone else. I´ve seen a lot of people come to wrong conclusions about these entries. To end all misleading theories: -Eris is not an AI, the AI pretends to be her -Eris did not create Medusa, she made her up and posed as her -Quria, is not Eris, it pretends to be an AI pretending to be Eris -Eris is not Quria, she just pretends to be her. Quria exists outside of this. Very confusing and multi-layered indeed. There are a lot of points that don’t add up if you believe that...(and listen to this, this is what the book wants the reader to believe) [*deep breath*] ...Eris pretended to be Quria, who pretended to be Medusa, after pretending to be Medusa, after contacting us first. Confused? You should be, because it is. Something doesn´t seem right about this. Let´s get to the theory. I believe Eris isn´t even involved in the whole thing. Some else is the real mind behind these messages. Notice that there is a certain structure to the order of beings interacting with us? Eris -> Medusa -> Quria -> Medusa -> Eris It comes back around, the pretend-circle mirrors itself. Quria is in the center. Up to Quria, the order makes sense, there is a certain logic. Then Medusa says she isn´t Quria, followed by Eris saying that she was everyone. Notice here, that lying about one’s identity is always used to hide something and gain trust to us. Eris pretends to be Medusa to cover up her first unsuccessful attempt of talking to us. Then, Medusa says she used Medusa as a way to gain our trust. So, at this point, Quria has made two attempts of contacting us, one as Eris, and one as Medusa, both uncovered. Remember that we are in a simulation now. That is a fact. The simulation happened. The detail of the information revealed within and the way it´s written give that away. Eris can’t create a simulation, Medusa probably can´t too. Even if she could, she couldn´t create a perfect simulation of Dul Incaru and her Hive verses. You need inside info to do that. I think you see what I´m getting at. Quria is definitely the architect of the simulation, and therefore the actual one talking to us. Everything that happens after and before the simulation is a cover up by Quria. She created Medusa, who pretended to be Eris at first. All to gain our trust. If Medusa is created by Quria, the Vex mind let us out of the simulation on her own and then continued to hide behind other faces, keeping the ruse intact by using the Eris facade again. Think of the situation as a pit with layers. Quria is, the bottom layer, the core, covered by Medusa, covered by Eris. (Events happen from left to right) Eris------------------Eris [Lie 1] -----\-----------------/---- Medusa------Medusa [Lie 2] ----------\-------/--------- -----------Quria---------- [Truth] [Sorry for this terrible attempt at visualization] We crack the two shells protecting Qurias identity, but she builds them up again. Quria is trying to make contact with us under two alibis at first, then revealing her true identity and intentions to us, but reverting to the facade after that. How and why would Quria, a taken agent of Savathun try to foil her plans? Simply, because Quria is a master of trickery herself and she has her own motives. She is disconnected from the Vex network and when Oryx took her, he left her with some of her own will, hoping that she would betray Savathun after he gifted Quria to her. Savathun did secretly organize the Vex invasion and wanted Quria to be created. But she seems to underestimate the powers of the hydra. Quria learned the sword logic in Oryx throne world. She is very adaptable. She has the greatest trickster to learn from. Quria knows Svatahuns masterplan That´s why she is causing the loop. To stop Savathun from reaching the Distributary through Dul Incaru. Whatever Quria wants to achieve in the end, it will probably only benefit her own agenda and Savathun is in her way. I doubt that Quira will continue to help us after Savathuns demise, but she seems to need us to kill the witch queen for her. And she will show us how. Currently Savathun is using Quria in her scheme, but the mind is already planning to foil the plan it helped to create. But why should Quria want to cover up her identity after we uncovered it? Why recreate the lies? My best guess is to gain our trust again. Every time a layer was lifted, it was because we didn’t trust the previous one. A guardian would trust Eris before trusting a random AI or a taken Hydra. Quria gave us the information she wanted us to have as Medusa and in the simulation. That´s the most important part in her plan. We need to know what´s going on. After that was done, she probably wanted to kill our doubts by pretending to be Eris, thereby giving legitimacy to the information. I must admit, her weird U-turn style recovery is poorly executed if she wanted to regain our trust. Now, there is another possible explanation to who´s talking when. I´m not that confident in this one, but it explains some aspects a little better, but lacks in many other parts. Both Quria and Medusa exist, are different beings and are both behind the messages. We can come to this conclusion if we take everything Eris says as false, but everything else as true. So, Medusa then is a golden age AI and the one pretending to be Eris. She then gets compromised by Quria, who also tries to contact us, trying to find help in killing Savathun. Medusa regains control and frees us from the simulation. Why she would pretend to be Eris after that, I don’t know. I´m fairly confident one of these possibilities is what´s actually happening in the book. ------------------------------------------------- I´ve covered Truth to Power so much in all of my last posts, I need a break from it. Hopefully this is the last piece in figuring out everything there is to this book. I hope you enjoyed this theory of mine. Please let me know if I missed something. Here are the links to every entry from Truth to Power in order. I don’t have the Ishtar collective links for all of these, so I used other ones, I hope they work: https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246533 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246534 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246535 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246528 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246529 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246530 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246531 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246540 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3053246541 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3070024247 https://data.destinysets.com/i/Lore:3070024246 -Expect a good ol´ timezone-adjustment-bump later-
BOO!
• I believe Quria is simulating (or using) Medusa (which is made by humans) to help simulate a Eris (a human). If you remember the O'Captain mission on Nessus, you'll notice how poorly the Vex can simulate a human even after so many years has passed since they observed and killed the Exodus Black crew.

  • Well you’d have to explain how Quria locked the city in the loop, as we’ve never seen the Vex exhibit power on this scale. But as we know the Curse is eventually broken, we’re likely to get our answer as the story progresses

    • I think Savathun is the most plausible being who masterminded this series of events.

        • I say all a ruse by the bitch savathun herself. Wasn't there life revealed where she stated to a thrall that she has converted how she fed her worm from killing to failure to understand her? This makes her true purpose impossible to understand. Actually, you're feeding her right now with this post......knock it off!

            • I’m not sure I agree with your interpretation of the ordering of events here. Or at least, it seems like you left a part out, maybe for simplicity’s sake? I’m fairly confident that it goes: Is It You - “Eris” contacts us and begins to describe the events taking place in the Dreaming City Will You Smile - “Eris” begins to express sentimentality, the transmission starts to glitch out, and “Eris” is revealed to be “Medusa.” Medusa - “Medusa” reveals herself as a golden age AI and begins analyzing the events in the Dreaming City. Thetis Brave - “Medusa” begins to draw conclusions about the dreaming city but crashes due to a timecode error. Act|Choose|React - We find ourselves in a simulation, ostensibly created by Quria. In this simulation, we can, among other things, play a soccer game against a simulated Eris. If we do this 100 times and then go to a step in the simulation’s flowchart that no other steps direct us to (which requires perceiving the steps in order, as a Vex might), then we can go to a step in the simulation where a “simulated Dul Incaru” appears to us. Injection - In the afformentioned step of the simulation, “Dul Incaru” “reveals” to us that this is not a simulation by Quria, but in fact a projection of her throne world, which is where she claims we really are. She then begins to reveal Savathun’s plan. Thank You - “Dul Incaru” continues to reveal Savathun’s verses, culminating in the Encrypted Verse, which claims that it was encrypted by Savathun eons ago using the quantum state of the universe at the time that we decrypted it, projected back to the time of encryption by Quria. This verse ostensibly reveals to us Savathun’s true nature; specifically, that our speculation about her is itself what created her. You Must - “Dul Incaru” serves us poisoned tea meant to allow us to perveive our true purpose. React|Choose|Act - We return to the “simulation”, where we encounter the “simulated Medusa” again, who leads us to “escape the simulation.” asudeM - “Medusa” tells us that when she crashed and tried to reboot, Quria infiltrated her systems and trapped us in the simulation to feed us misinformation. It’s Just Me - “Eris” reveals that she made Medusa, the Quria simulation, Dul Incaru’s throne world, and the Encrypted Verse up because she was embarrassed but still had to convey important information to us. So I agree with you that there is some Inception-style visions within visions going on here, but I think your analysis is missing a couple layers. It’s not (just) Eris < Medusa < Quria > Medusa > Eris. It’s Eris < Medusa < Quria < Dul Incaru < Savathun (via The Encrypted Verse) > Dul Incaru > Quria > Medusa > Eris. By the same logic you use to say the simulation definitively happened, and therefore Quria is behind all of this, I would say the simulation is not the deepest layer of the deception. I think the only thing we can say definitely happened is that we accessed the Encrypted Verse. If there is only one thing we can take away from this series of lore cards, it’s that our speculation empowers Savathun. Everything else is misdirection meant to fuel that speculation.

              • I hate that I read all of these cards a while back because we have no context for how they’re unlocked or what circumstances, so there’s loads of things that could change our understandings. Also I hate that I know these since they’re supposed to be trickled out over a long amount of time and we’ve yet to have any of them drop normally in game, which means it’ll be a long time before we actually can talk about these as an entire community, and some reveals later won’t have any weight since we’ve already read the next card.

                      • This is amazing breakdown, congrats man! It definetly makes Quria interesting, I just wish atleast one of all those races we fight against, could finally make an alliance with us and work together to take Savathun down.. Quria as Vex representative has it in her plans obviously, but only until Savathun meets her demise.. The Fallen have ongoing civil war, Variks wants to become the kell of kells and Mithrax as well, one wants to make Fallen strong again and the second one is the only one that wants to work with humanity, so it depends who wins. Cabal are our archnemesis since the Red War, so the only one there to help us would be Calus, but he has his own agenda binded to darkness, so who knows.. and Hive? There is nobody on Hive side if we don't count Eris in sorts, who would be up for peaceful cooperation with humanity.. okay, maybe Xol, since he made himself our hoe after his defeat, because he is a greedy bastard of Worm god family, but nobody likes him at the moment, not even his siblings. So to make it simple, I hope that we can ensure confident peace with Quria and Mithrax, if both happen to lead their respective races against Savathun, even after her defeat, cuz otherwise it will feel like zero impact on Destiny universe all over again..
