Now back in my day there were only 3 ways of getting yourself into a raid.
1: G-Horn. Guaranteed you a spot, even if you were the worst player ever.
2: Icebreaker. Was like the G-Horn but you were second pick (still higher priority than anyone else)
3: Sell your body as a bladedancer
