Engram saving for Rise of Iron
Just having a debate with my friends and am just wondering whether or not exotic engrams gained in TTK will decrypt into year 3 exotics in RoI?
I'm presuming they won't?

1 ReplyI'm saving extoics knowing they will be just points for the Cryptarc and some shards Legendaries are still points for cryptarc but also Legendary Marks that I can then use to buy from vendors on day one Gonna rank up factions to just a bounty away and have been stocking up on planet mats and glimmer stash Wish I had some more Strange Coins for Xur first visit in Rise...but I will have enough to stack a few items

Do it I am. I got over 60 armor and 60 weapons engrams in the vault and postmaster. You have nothing to lose by doing so.

The way I look at it is, I don't need anything, so saving them is really my only option.

My thinking is it will decode into something from y2 but have higher light lvl since all y2 gear is being brought forward to y3. Save strange coins and 3oc.

I've got about 30 odd in the vault, I'm not worried about the exotics just want them for infusion, or at worst rank the cryptarc

2 RepliesMost likely not; however, if you're not going after a specific legendary/exotic or trying to get a better roll, I would recommend stashing legendary and exotic engrams regardless as you'll rank up the Cryptarch faster once the DLC drops and could *potentially* have a chance to get newer gear from the rank up packages.

You don't get any Y3 crap you only get Y2 drops. At best their only utility would be to level up the Cryptarch quickly.

I would say it is doubtful that bungie will be adding any new exotics to the engram drop table in RoI (except for X1 players getting the PS exclusives). Save legendaries instead. Then you can atleast break them down into legendary marks. Which can be used to buy RoI tower gear and or Cryptarch Engrams. You wont get as big a boost to your Cryptarch rank as you would with exotics, but you only have a chance of a legendary engram dropping in his rank up packages anyway.

This should work. The way that things are going, you'll be able to use an exotic past level 40. Bungie announced that there would be no "Year 3" officially speaking and that infusion would stay the same as it currently is, so I assume that that means that you're engrams should work, just maybe not at the light level you were hoping.

I'm saving some for the sake of saving some. I have everything and the only thing I'm hoping is when RISE comes out I'll be able to de-crypt at a higher light when I'm at a higher light. Other than that I can't see a purpose of hording, but I'm going to give it a small go knowing that I might not get anything in the end for my efforts.

Here's the thing, Bungie made Legacy Engrams for decrypting Y1 weapons specifically. Being that they're still called "exotic engrams", maybe, [i]just maybe,[/i] they will become Y3/RoI exotics, as they have not yet become "Y2 Engrams" (or any similar title that may arise). But then again, we don't know what the future holds.

Yeah, they won't decrypt into yr3 gear but you can still use them to level up your rep and gain yr3 gear that way...

Nope. As everyone below has already said. I'd still save them. I'd also edge all factions, vanguard, crucible,cryptarch etc. Then on release lvl them up. Should have a bunch of shiny new toys to play with within minutes of release.

No with expansions it wont. Updates are different. You can save them for those. That being said you could use them for leveling the Cryptarch up(not that he will give you anything you want ,though)
