Many people have died for freedom of speech. Many people in other countries have never even experienced it. Why would you take away the freedom that we deserve on the internet?
You ban people for typing a swear word. You ban people when they express themselves. Why do you people report others? People have the right to their opinions.
You may not like what another person has to say. That doesn't mean people don't have the right to say it. Next time you report someone or mute them you do the internet and the world a huge disservice. Think about that please. People have literally fought and died for this. Thanks for reading.

25 RepliesOh look, another person that doesn't understand how freedom of speech works.

Freedom of speech doesn't give people the right to defame someone. You can swear all you want as long as it's not directed at someone in an effort to insult them.
-
You have the Freedom to say or do what you want as long as it doesn't affect the rights or freedom of others. Meaning if you want to run out in to the Forest and yell and scream and shoot guns in the air go for it. You walk into somebody's house and do that you'll get slapped or possibly shot.

1 ReplyEdited by tjustie: 6/20/2016 8:23:35 PMYou have no freedom of speech here. It's a private forum that you agreed to the ToS for when you signed up. You don't have freedom of speech in my house, and I don't have freedom of speech in your house. This is Bungie's house. You play by their rules. Also, muting someone has literally nothing to do with free speech whatsoever. I could mute every single person on this forum if I wanted to. Nobody died to protect your speech on these forums, much less to protect some random person's right to remain unmuted.

34 RepliesFreedom of speech is an American civil liberty. It does not apply to a privately owned website. Bungie could literally come in here and tell us all that the word "peaches" is now a bannable offense and there wouldn't be a damn thing anyone could do about it. Their house, their rules. Accept it or find another website that better suits your needs.

I can't tell if this is just massive ignorance, or just a person feigning ignorance, but at the scale whatever it is is spewed forth here it sort of becomes irrelevant. Either way, it's a privately owned website and they can censor whatever the -blam!- they want. Freedom of speech doesn't apply here.

6 RepliesEdited by Scorpius XX1: 6/21/2016 7:09:52 AMI actually agree with this post as it relates to these forums. People on here have a real hard time understanding others have a different point of view on many a topic. And as is often the case, they proceed to try and regulate thoughts and opinions through the use of trolling, muting and false reporting. However, freedom of speech on the internet can be a tricky thing. Because one doesn't posses the insight of intent through words on a screen. It's easy to take many things out of context, or to take them literally as factual statements of opinion. For myself, I try to simply this by following the same moral codes on the internet, that I would speaking to someone face to face. By not saying anything online that I wouldn't say in front of them. Liberties are not just a given, they require some form of responsibility. All liberties do. And I think that this understanding of freedom should translate onto the internet, but it simply doesn't. It's still new ground that is evolving, that I think, at least so far, is immune to regulation in any form. So while I would agree that in some instances people on here try to regulate another's point of view, I do not believe anyone's right to free speech is being violated here. People can say almost exactly what they wish to.

-blam!- yea -blam!-er

Consider yourself lucky. They ban people for way less over at the halo forums <<<< You can't even say retard over there without getting lynched.
-
In America we also have the right to report people for harrassment.. so when people on the forums start harrassing us we have the right to report/mute them.. that doesn't mean that no one else can't see what those trolls are spouting..
-
Agreed, but there should be banning. We can't have a bunch of nut jobs yelling at people online.
-
-blam!-
inb4 ban without context
Freedom of speech just means the Government can't arrest you for speaking your mind. On the internet moderators can do whatever they want with censorship rules in their own domains.
-
1 ReplyWhile I would agree people shouldn't be banned for stating opinions or making jokes, you should be banned for stating this opinion...
-
This website is owned by a company, not the government.
-
Edited by catrodsan: 6/20/2016 8:13:03 PMFreedom of speech is to protect you from censure from the government. It doesn't protect you from the consequences of your speech. Bungie, as mentioned, hosts the forums and as mentioned has rules you agree to. None of which breaks freedom of speech. And why would Bungie or any other company who owns a forum want their place to be a breeding ground for cowards who want to hide behind an anonymous user name? People didn't die so cowards can hide behind the Internet.
