So far every DLC has tied into lore that already pertained to the original content within destiny, Crota was mentioned several times, Oryx was mentioned a few times in vanilla and once more during the dark below if you returned to eris after killing crota, and the house of wolves made a proper appearance when we met with the queen initially.
These dlc events didn't just come out of nowhere and existed in the destiny lore beforehand most likely due to cut content after the original supercut of the game was put down. But that brings a problem into Rise of Iron, we all know Saladin was holding the iron banner tournament to train us but we were never told anything about a machine plague, AND we know damn well the warlock order would've had Saladin's head if he had withheld that kind of information. Now you could make a connection with osiris since Shaxx has been in communication with the cult on Mercury and that Saladin bequeathed the information to Shaxx to pass it on to the Vanguard before he went back out on his nearly month long patrols.
I don't like new information being revealed in a place that is located so close to an existing area in the game be completely ignored within the original content in a universe this big. I mean the Vault of Glass has more connection to the universe than this plague does since the Vault was the vex's attempt at recreating Oryx's throne world.
This seems like bad storytelling on Bungie's part but maybe we just don't have enough information about this plague and it's placement in the destiny world.

Well, as it said in the trailer, it was meant to be sealed away for ever, the less people that new about it the better that way, nobody would try to explore and release the plague
-
I just posted a theory concerning a visible appearance of the plague in the Dark Below https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/206807141/0/0

Saladin lost eight of his brothers and sisters, fellow lords of iron trying to contain this horrible plague. He dedicated himself to putting his fell guardians through the ultimate gauntlet, The Iron Banner, to test and train them for the plague he knew would someday would once return, no matter how he hoped against such a possibility. His nightmare has been realized. He knows what it can do, and he knows how guardians seek dangerous tech to turn against their enemies. He never wanted us to search for this, though. Saladin has seen the warped bodies of his comrades. This is why he started the Iron Banner. To memorialize them in glorious combat, to ensure we, the next generation of guardians, are better prepared. And now that his secret foe rises once more, he knows we're ready.

1 ReplyBecause the Vanguard didn't want overzealous guardians going out and releasing SIVA upon the world because they thought they could handle the technological corruption without consequence. Now there are guardians powerful enough to challenge it. I mean, we have killed the shit out of 3 gods. We can probably handle a machine.

Edited by Ostensibly: 6/13/2016 5:06:33 PMJagi's host disappeared south of the Cosmodrome and the Titan grimoire mentions their ghosts returning to the City buzzing with corruption. The Parasitic Optic also looks like SIVA. Not to mention the House of Devils card mentions them hunting for something under the Cosmodrome. It's not a ton of lore, but it's about as much as we had before Oryx showed up. Minus Crota's End referencing him.

Well we have to see in the story aren't we
-
I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain...
-
Its definitley been foreshadowed the fallen were trying to acess rasputins database to look for golden age tech in the grimoire it states they are looking something underneath the cosmodrome. Plus if everyone knew about SIVA it wouldnt be much ofba secret.
-
Theres the iron lords we know they were dead. Saladin tried to keep the SIVA a secret so this powerful thing wouldnt get into the wrong hands. They also a titan people keep referencing in the grimoire.

Edited by Patriot121: 6/15/2016 6:43:34 PMExcept there have been a handful of scattered references to it. Not much admittedly, but just a little less than we had about Oryx before TTK. Plus, it was supposed to be a secret and sealed away for all eternity. It's hard to keep things a secret when everyone knows about it.
-
But it has.

2 RepliesBecause the entirety of Bungie's current story was written on short notice. You trying creating a cohesive, overarching, world narrative after years of working on one script, only to see upper management trash it months from release. There's a reason the lead story dude left and it wasn't because "he felt it was time to move on." It's fine to criticize, but at least understand the reasons the story was junk.
-
Let's face it- the Taken and the Plague are contrived plot devices that mean Bungie don't have to make new models and can simply change existing ones. They make more money with less effort.
-
8 RepliesPeople are now getting pissed that we have fresh, brand new ideas. Lol wow. This community is never satisfied.

For an extra $30 we'll give you 0.04 more percent of the story! ~Bungie

1 ReplyHere's what I think, I feel that since the "plague" was thought to be already dealt with, so everyone slowly forgot about it overtime. Or maybe because they don't want to cause any mass panic from this so they must have kept it secret.
-
The whole concept for this "plague" really got going when destiny 2 got delayed. We probably wouldn't have seen this if it wasn't delayed.
-
12 RepliesBecause bungie just it pulled out of their ass, slapped a title on it and called it dlc so hardcore fans wouldn't get bored. Half of everything were getting in rise of iron is either cut content from the original story or something they just made up. I really doubt they planned this from the beginning because they thought destiny was gonna do so good there would be no need, but they were wrong.

2 RepliesWhat I want to know is why the Speaker has been so silent since the black garden. Surely Oryx was a little more important than that splodge...? Not a thank you... not a 'well... that battle long ago, it was him.' Nothing.
-
This opens a new plot to destiny because of siva and plaguelands
-
"Quick guardian, the hordes of Oryx have taken Mars. We need you to stop him! But first let me tell you about an obscure techno plague that we believe was wiped out hundreds of years ago."
-
It's a plague man. Those things are usually pretty sneaky until it's too late. Bubonic Chronic

Lol feels like a filler in an anime doesn't it.

5 RepliesMy guess as to why we didn't hear anything about this before is that it is similar to the Templar Knights. They both were renowned warrior orders whose ideals and principles left them duty bound to protect those who needed it. Even going so far as to keep secrets. If warlocks knew about SIVA how long do you think it would take before their mad thirst for knowledge drove them to study it. Then the plague would spread and consume those in its path. Like the Templars they kept many secrets. Secrets we do not even know today.
