Speculate why bungie did not bring back old raids
To me this seemed like a layup. This was an easy way to get teams of players back in the game on a regular basis.
It also doesn't seem to require a ton of programming resources to up the difficulty level and add a loot table. But it would have satisfied thousands of people for months while we wait on new content.
So why did they skip the easy route?

One thing that I am absolutely certain of in regards to these forums is that if Bungie had brought forward two old raids then these pages would be full of people complaining about it. I believe that those who want the old raids brought forward are not interested in the raids themselves, but in the loot.

1 ReplyBecause the game is telling a story...... I know, I know. Raids have been done, end bosses have been killed. There is no reason as far as the story goes to go back into Raid areas. The only way they could bring the raids back into the game is if they put Taken in there, but why? Why would the taken be in VOG? It wouldn't fit with the story...... I know, I know. The only possible thing they could do was bring back POE. It makes total sense. They make a weak arsed story about Variks taking Taken and putting them in the POE and bam! New update.... Bungie pats themselves on the back and goes back to working on D2.

Because then they wouldn't have any content to release in the next expansion. Next raid will be VoG backwards. We might get Crota backwards in another update. And then the first raid of destiny 2 will be king's fall. [i]But backwards.[/i]

Ex: Honestly (others know this) re-skinning a paint job on a gun or armor is very easy once you have the original 2-D flattened template..... Pretty much just color it in in PS... Wrap it back around 3-d model I believe we will see updated raids. ... But imagine the dedicate 1 person to reorganizing a tweaked version ..... so it seems there would be a reason for a delayed "raid update".... I think this is where players r upset.... Y won't/can't they just keep the same raid just up the difficulty with an adjustment to drops.... Which could easily be done While keeping the old VoG etc for their regular loot tables Cuz they don't want to Bottom line Only sensible answer i have ..... Is because of sales And To make it seems as if "new content" Is paced to make the stretch to destiny 2 Release small bits at a time Phone it in In between Seems destiny 1 is on its way out for real "new content" Until destiny 2 release date is pushed back.... Bringing back the old Raids is something that has been discussed by this community ever since TTK was releasesd. The initial thought was that Bungie was going to let year one content stay in year one and focus on new content for year two. But, no, that's not what they're doing, because they're bringing back Prison of Elders which is a year one activity, and not a very fun one at that. It's a super simplified and not very challenging version of horde mode. If you're going to update year one content, why update one of the more poorly received activities? How difficult would it have been to update the old raids? Better gear/weapon drops, add taken enemies to the encounters, maybe change up the encounters a little bit. Like maybe Atheon destroys the middle platform so players can't all group up there. Maybe Crota instead of going from right to left in a pattern just goes in a random direction. I'm just spit balling ideas here. My point it, if Bungie was going to update year one content, PoE is the last thing we'd want brought back from year one. Yet that's what we're getting. Because Bungie doesn't care.

2 RepliesReprogramming years of work isn't that easy. POE isn't a raid, it's a much smaller program and easier to update. If they broke VOG trying to mush Taken into Atheon's story, they would have a huge problem with their loyals. Modifying PoE by altering program mechanics were, most likely, already programmed into the game. That allows 'hooks' that can be used to alter the experience. VOG was, most likely, hard coded and doesn't have "hooks" allowing altered mechanics. If they needed to be created, they may break the entire game. Would take a lot longer and require significant testing. May be a work in progress, but certainly, not as easy as one might think.

Also to those who say "well what about wretched knight and the pilot servitor?" There could be more than one of those guys

But the conclusion I have come to if they updated the old raids people would stop playing the Oryx raid cos it's shite ! Too much jumping about its bollox, make players play what bungie wants you to play instead of what players want to play that's why we have had PvP rammed down out throuts. Now on the other hand I enjoyed Poe so I'm looking forward to the update and the bonus is it's free as long as you bought tkk so for me it's a step in the right direction and if people keep complaining enough maybe bungie will listen and bring yr 1 raids to yr 2 levels we can all but hope 😁

1 ReplyYou have no idea whether or not it would be easy update that content. You aren't a programmer or designer at Bungie so making blanket statements does not help your point. I agree that updated versions of those encounters would be challenging, but they are still fun to do, if you don't know the mechanics they are still challenging. It's also just a video game that it's meant to be played for fun, not everything is a loot grind. Story-wise they already closed the door to taken versions of VOG and CE. I want the story to move forward, not take backward steps. I'm not thrilled at POE coming back but the way it's coming back as challenge modes with new encounters and modifiers sounds fun. Nothing real will happen until the fall when we have to pay for it because develop meant takes a lot of time and is very expensive, hundreds of labor hours aren't going to be poured into something that will see no fiscal return. Sure, this update may lure some players that haven't purchased TTK yet but not enough to make it worth it. Bungie seems to be struggling a lot right now due to probably being stretched to thin on too many projects, one of them being Destiny 2. It took them years to build Destiny and it came out very different than what was advertised. They don't want to make those mistakes again, they are being tight-lipped because the want to set expectations correctly for everything the do from here on out.

Perhaps they are but not on a way to scale it to now, but indefinitely. Its very difficult to write the code that can be scaled every time there is a light increase so perhaps they are working on that as a side project in the meantime :/ That way when it comes out it'll scale every time there is a light level increase and they just flip a switch rather than perform 500 man hours plus each time they up the level cap. Just a thought, that or they just dont have the time or resources. Compared to many other companies, they are rather small and most of Activisions money is just for advertising which helps nobody at Bungie do their jobs better. Honestly idgaf, if i wanna play the old raids i go do it. Cuz i can wear my gear in the crucible which is all i really care about nowadays anyways. Stay Frosty my Guardians

Would've had to delete elementary burns from guns in loot table. Then what do you do with black hammer? Plus it wouldn't make sense lore wise to revisit them

Cuz they lazy. Sure POE is nice, but it's gonna give people a month or so as far as content. Then the game will be dry AF again. When my friends and I saw this, we just shrugged. We hated POE in year one so this update does next to nothing for us.
