I'm proud to be part of the Destiny community. It's a vibrant family of artists, directors, lore freaks, PvP'ers, and PvE'ers. However since Destiny's release 14 months ago, Bungie has been heavily criticized and even harassed due to the disaster that was vanilla Destiny and the facade that was Year 1. Ever since, we've fought as a community; elitists against casuals, noobs vs vets and haters vs fanboys about what's wrong with the game and what needs to be fixed. Nerf this? Nerf that? Buff this? Buff that?
We can't agree on anything and when Bungie tries to make amends for their mistakes, we just complain and hate on them even more. We can never be satisfied, we can never be thankful for anything Bungie does to improve the situation. All the majority of our community does is brutally chastise Bungie, spouting ad hominums out of our mouths, acting like irrational man-children when we should be calmly providing feedback. For example, recently, Bungie brought back Year 1 weapons after we begged for their return, but all we did after was point fingers, saying Bungie refuses to provide fresh content. We act like spoiled brats. We act like Bungie hasn't done anything good and they must fix everything immediately or we'll leave the community. There's a constant stream of self-entitled players who announce their "dramatic" departure from the game, thinking it'll make a difference when in actuality, they're only making themselves feel better.
I'm a pessimist by nature but even I understand how to look on the bright side sometimes. Many of our fellow guardians don't. Bungie has screwed up yes. Yes there need to be some changes or the game will die out. Yes we have a right to be angry, but they're really not the biggest problem right now, we are; and it's for not being rational when providing feedback, acting like the self-entitled snowflakes that think we have the perfect answers and so on.
We all agree Destiny could be better yes? So what we should be doing is expressing ourselves in a more mature and rational manner, in order to better clarify what we want and how it should be done. We should fight for content for casuals and hardcore players, we should unite as a community and together, help make Destiny the game that was originally promised to us.
EDIT: Due to an overwhelming demand for paragraphs, I have edited the post to implement them.

24 RepliesSee, here's the thing. If year 1 was a disaster and facade why did you still play? If a game is that bad, trade it, return it. People complain about this game so much, yet tbh, it was bloody fantastic. I had a freakin great time playing year 1. TTK made it even better. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your post, but was Destiny really that bad for you in year 1?
-
3 RepliesCompletely agree, the destiny community will never be fully happy no matter what content comes out etc. I think a lot of good was done with ttk and there is a good amount of Content.

Of course we are. The community (well, the majority of the forum users anyway) are the biggest bunch of spoilt, whinging little shits I've ever come across. They also seem to lack the ability to think for themselves, and will quickly jump on the "Bungie sucks because *current flavour of the month reason*", and will quickly refer to anyone who logically disagrees a "desticle", all the while forgetting they've put hundreds of hours into a game they "don't like" whilst still roaming the forums. I have no problem with anyone who doesn't like this game, mostly because you won't see them here, they'll have found a new game and gotten on with their lives, like a normal person.

1 ReplyWhile I understand where you are coming from, this really hasn't worked. Many players in forums, on reddit, and youtubers have all expressed with respect and rational thinking what they would like to see. Reddit has some of the most positive posts that breakdown in great detail on how to solve little problems here and there. All the other toxic feedback comes out of anger when rational debate and criticism is ignored over and over again. I have relatively stayed positive all through out yr1 except when lag switchers were coming into trials and messing up the few potential flawless runs I could have had. I don't normally complain but recently I can't help it. For example they thought weapon parts was a problem? Strange coins were to available? Motes of light was invading people's vault spaces? The scream from the Daughters was way above acceptable volume levels? Oh man, I remember all those irrational angry posts protesting "nerf our in game economy or I'm done", "I don't want that many bullets AMA" and "Ears Matter" posts. These fixes did not help anyone's gaming experience. No one wanted them in the first place. You know I still have friends that message me asking me why I still play this game. My go to answer was "I like playing and therefore I will play". I'm having a hard time copying and pasting that answer anymore. Everyone has already stated what they wanted in clear fashion more times than I can count. We are just beating up a dead horse and I think we are sick of beating this poor dead animal's hollowed out bones to ashes. Bungie's ears unfortunately got nerfed by the Daughters of Oryx. So I will turn to my friend and say "Have you met Destiny? No? Well, don't bother?" Good on you for trying to promote civility but this post is a dime a dozen amongst others that have taken rational approaches about fixing this game. The rational people left a long time ago. All that is left are the fanatics and broken housewives.

1 ReplyLook, we "haters" didn't hate on things like weapons and stuff to ask for buffs n nerfs. I don't think that we are the only morons on this planet when we say that destiny is a little above average. We asked for more content. You know what? Ttk+how+db+vanilla destiny= 60$ game. Thats exactly how it should have been. It would have been better and could sustain its own weight, instead we got an empty game and the company was like: TWENTY DOLLARS FOR 2 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY! Like seriously? Besides the fact tht ppl at bungie don't know how to buff n nerf shit, we are dissatisfied because they, for whatever reason, do it even for things that we never asked for (no feedback). Reason is cuz...we overused them. Nice. Even when they decide to do something nice, they -blam!- us right in the ass. Remember those emotes? I was one of the ppl that shouted for the thriller dance to be on Halloween event. -blam!- me no? Cuz I didn't have 5 $ to buy it. Or remember when ppl REALLY wanted the carlton dance? just to be bought? If thts not a burn thn idk what is. It is NOT our fault for EVERYTHING. Bungie gets what bungie gave us: bullshit.

1 ReplySays we need to conduct ourselves in a more mature and rational manner......Calls players in the Destiny community: Man-children Spoiled brats Self entitled snowflakes Yep, that's very mature and rational. And anyways, this is just cheesy clickbait for Bungie fanboys. I see plenty of critical posts that are not vile or toxic towards Bungie but respectful and informative. There are some trending right now. All because you see one little mean spirited post about Bungie doesn't mean that post represents the majority of the community.

1 ReplyEdited by Ghost J34: 11/25/2015 6:12:48 AM
when Bungie tries to make amends for their mistakes
Stopped reading right there. Bungie had no problem charging you $140 while they "tried to make amends for their mistakes". Oh, the naivety. For your sake I hope you're a teenager.

tl;dr Criticism is most effective when presented in a respectful and constructive manner.

Liam out? Like, of the closet? You're not cool nor was using that line ever cool. So, stop. Also, no. Just no. For $140 game, just no.

I agree partly on the idiotic trolling that happens here. Thus why i go on reddit. But this game has seriously been watered down to bare minimum all to make more profit. I've fallen for the "we're fixing this in next dlc/destiny year" wayyyy too much now. I'd love for destiny to be great, it's a great gaming concept. But seriously bungo need to stop -blam!-ing us around with this crap they're doing.

There's been plenty of great stuff done by Bungie in Destiny. But in an age where venting your anger rather than taking part in an activity is as simple as visiting a forum there's not going to be overflowing praise. The praise is people happily playing. Bungie should be thanking users for the feedback in any form because the vast majority of people don't care enough to leave a goodbye note on the way out. They just buy a new game and piss off. It doesn't really matter if people are presenting reasoned arguments or just trolling like a pro. If they are complaining about a topic then Bungie should be taking note and making changes. QUICK CHANGES. It shouldn't be hard to roll out quick, constant changes to try and find some balance. At the moment half the weapon types are rubbish. How hard is it to tweak the ones that no one uses and ask players for feedback on a weekly basis. At the very least they can look at actual game stats to see if an argument is valid. What's HC/Fusion/Sidearm use like in all forms of crucible. What's Sniper use like. Wow we need to make some changes as suggested by players. This Bungie can further break up by player stats, what are good players using, what are normal players using, what are pro players using. Who really gives a -blam!- about pro players (or the super shit players) they aren't representative of the player base anyway so let's ignore them and make some real changes.

Bungie is a HUGE part of the problem. Yes, the community could present their issues in a more constructive way (for the most part, some people actually do), definitely agree, but that does not excuse Bungie from their BS which includes straight up lying in their marketing (pre-Vanilla was sold as a different game and the "smart" loot system in TTK was 100% a lie), abysmal communication which continues to this day, constant economy changes for no good reason just to force a longer grind, constant weapon changes that always screw up something else, the list goes on. We owe Bungie NOTHING as the consumer, but as the company who puts out a product, we have every right to tell Bungie to shove it when they lie to us and I hope the surviving community continues to call them out since pretty much all year 1 players I used to play with have walked away and don't care anymore. Remember, most of the community backlash is due to Bungie poorly executing their ideas and being awful at communicating those changes. They also need to tone down their high horse attitude when it comes to fixing their screw-ups.

You pretty much described the modern gamer, which is impossible to please. It doesn't matter what a company does. Once the flames are fanned by youtubers and forum posts it's on. People can't think for themselves. I truly blame those people more than the community at large.

3 RepliesI'm pleased with destiny I did like 8 night falls just for fun managed to get a 310 bad juju too!!! But yeah you can't please everyone

3 RepliesThe game already has died out, and that's not our fault, it's bungie's and other companies. And bungie just keeps pushing it, and they just keep choking harder.
