Bungie Isn't The Biggest Problem, WE are!

I'm proud to be part of the Destiny community. It's a vibrant family of artists, directors, lore freaks, PvP'ers, and PvE'ers. However since Destiny's release 14 months ago, Bungie has been heavily criticized and even harassed due to the disaster that was vanilla Destiny and the facade that was Year 1. Ever since, we've fought as a community; elitists against casuals, noobs vs vets and haters vs fanboys about what's wrong with the game and what needs to be fixed. Nerf this? Nerf that? Buff this? Buff that? We can't agree on anything and when Bungie tries to make amends for their mistakes, we just complain and hate on them even more. We can never be satisfied, we can never be thankful for anything Bungie does to improve the situation. All the majority of our community does is brutally chastise Bungie, spouting ad hominums out of our mouths, acting like irrational man-children when we should be calmly providing feedback. For example, recently, Bungie brought back Year 1 weapons after we begged for their return, but all we did after was point fingers, saying Bungie refuses to provide fresh content. We act like spoiled brats. We act like Bungie hasn't done anything good and they must fix everything immediately or we'll leave the community. There's a constant stream of self-entitled players who announce their "dramatic" departure from the game, thinking it'll make a difference when in actuality, they're only making themselves feel better. I'm a pessimist by nature but even I understand how to look on the bright side sometimes. Many of our fellow guardians don't. Bungie has screwed up yes. Yes there need to be some changes or the game will die out. Yes we have a right to be angry, but they're really not the biggest problem right now, we are; and it's for not being rational when providing feedback, acting like the self-entitled snowflakes that think we have the perfect answers and so on. We all agree Destiny could be better yes? So what we should be doing is expressing ourselves in a more mature and rational manner, in order to better clarify what we want and how it should be done. We should fight for content for casuals and hardcore players, we should unite as a community and together, help make Destiny the game that was originally promised to us. EDIT: Due to an overwhelming demand for paragraphs, I have edited the post to implement them. LiamCDM out.

  • No matter how someone puts it they will never listen to the people. They only care about money. As for the asking for new fresh thing was always the problem after a dlc was beat to death. The problems is with the lies. Simply put. They said they fixed the loot.....they did not.

  • Things I want in a game A deep story Deeper lore which the game already has. That's it. I'm not asking to change all of gaming. I'm not asking for custom games. I'm not even asking for 50 raids. I'm asking for a deep story with in the game? Is that to much to ask for ? Is that something bungie can't do anymore !!?

    • Bungie needs to stop influencing the way i play this game and if you think they don't you need wake up. I mean, think of it this way, if you are playing Fallout (typical example), you customise your armour/weapons and all of a sudden the developer turns around and tells you "Nuh this aint the way to play our game...." and starts messing with your shit wouldn't that upset you? What the hell did i pay for?

    • Sigh. I take it you've played Destiny since launch, yet you must be new to the forums. This post wouldn't even exist if that weren't the case. There have been SO many, and I mean SO many threads since Destiny launched with great feedback, suggestions, etc. Which were pretty much swept under the rug and seemed to be unacknowledged by any bungie community managers at the time. When people aren't being heard in one tone, they typically change their tone in hopes of being heard out. This literally applies to almost every single thing in life. You need to know you're putting the gun in the wrong direction. Bungie NEEDS to learn how to communicate better with their community. I don't expect every thread to be acknowledged, but some of the major ones that have replies from Cozmo such as, "I'll make sure the dev team knows." No, that's shit. Get the devs that would deal with some of these topics on the threads an express their logic and ideologies behind things rather than sweeping it under with shitty PR. I seriously can't understand why people want to sit here and defend bungie in this way, and many other's when it's bungie's fault for not understanding how to handle their own community. They've literally stated in a vidoc that they've been dropping the ball, community management-wise, yet still haven't done shit to correct themselves. This was just a little before TTK. Here we are, with little to no change what so ever.

      • I appreciate your point of view and at some point would have agreed with some of what you say. However, as a day-1 player and day-1 forum reader, I've had a very easy time sifting through the forum noise (and to be sure, there has been a lot of it) to find literally countless threads and posts of very well-written, thoughtful, and optimistic feedback, and it almost universally has fallen on deaf ears at Bungie. In fact, the only concise things I've seen Bungie address are the topics that, after being neglected for overly long periods of time, the sheer vitriol expressed by the community, as well as gaming sites, nearly forced Bungie's hands into finally acting. As a bit of a message board addict (for whatever game or topic I'm interested in at the time), I can say it is no simple coincidence that Destiny has the most bitter community in memory.

        • I understand there's a lot of whining about this game. It doesn't change the fact that Bungie has gone and broken their word on several occasions. Some examples of this would be making sure our gear never became irrelevant (Y1) and making the game less of a grind (which they made Y2 a bigger grind than Y1). Bungie has had plenty of fault in this game's stat. You have lack of diversity in objects (reskins, some not even reskined). As someone who wishes they could work on the development team for Destiny, seeing the kind of models and diversity they put out is saddening. It makes me think "You paid someone to make this???" Some example of this are the Iron Shell and Graverobber, cheap and easy color changes with a different name. And don't even get me started on the Iron Banner weapons... If they want each item to be unique, then make them unique... There are people on the Internet that produce better ideas than the actual development team, and they're not even getting paid to do it. Those are the people Bungie needs to hire.

        • Thank you for the paragraphs. And the injection of truth. The bi!tching literally never ends here, even when Bungie does something that was overwhelmingly supported, like bringing back the Y1 exotics. Like, WTF, not only did the vast majority of people ask for that, Bungie also freaking told us it would happen eventually. Now they do it, and people are actually complaining about it? It boggles the mind.

            • I dont hate destiny, the game es fun but repetitive, i think what got people so mad is the way bungie just lie to everybody releasing 1/3 of the game every dlc and that is something you dont do to your fanbase. Every two or three months more theories would come out showing what destiny could have been and how bungie have been liyng and hiding content that was already in the game. I think thats why people are mad or hating.

            • The full game was near completion and some people quit. And yes a lot of people know who. Oryx was the final boss for the first Destiny. There was no dlc. No exspansion. Only a near completed game. But after some people quit the original game had to be almost completely rewrote. The guidelines that made Destiny has to be tweaked. The new guys just had to wing it and knew the full game couldn't be released. But only released piece by piece trying to fix what broke. And later sold as dlc and exspansion content. And everyone knows about it. The chopped story. The weapons unbalanced because the original blue print gone. Parts of the game feeling unfinished. The gamers feel literally ripped off and want compensation. And nearly everyone feels its fair.

Completely agree. I'm not sure which is worse, the over the top anger of the community, or the fact that the community can't agree on anything. The forums are filled with posts crying out for nerfs, but when nerfs come around there are more posts complaining about the nerfs. Of course hand cannon users are going to hate a hand cannon nerf, but argue for a pulse rifle nerf. Guess what pulse rifle users are going to do? This tells me one thing: the community doesn't agree on what the weapon balance should actually be. Maybe Bungie shouldn't be listening to the community at all, and should balance the weapons based on what they think is right. But then what do I know? I main a scout rifle.

              • I'm glad for the Y1 weapons that Bungie is bringing back. I was really disheartened when I lost MIDA, and I'm incredibly excited that it's in the first batch to return! And while I agree that there are many whose time could be better spent giving actual feedback, rather than crying on the forums, I have to admit that some folks seem to have good reason to be upset. (I'd honestly rather not get into a debate over it, but it seems to me there should be some sort of middle ground, rather than the two extremes we see so prevalently on the forums. I mean, Bnet is starting to look like the U.S. government: two parties that can't agree, but only one can have control of the government at a time. They're always trying to undo the other's work.)

              • It's honestly both sides: Bungie: Bungievision is really just Bungie. Trying to milk a product that isn't even finished... after a year after "release." Pulling shady sht like firing the music composer and writer to try and get their products without paying them. Ignoring the community, except for sht "weapon balancing updates and a few bug fixes here and there", but not the raid ones because that takes too much effort. Screwing over beta, yr1, and beggining yr2 players. I imagine this will continue. Making PvE and PvP jointed. Fanbase: Being dumba$$es and pre-ordering every DLC Falling for Bungie's "We're fixing it" BS. Pre-ordering. Wasting time for sht drops, and then doing it again next week hoping for a change. Did it mention pre-ordering?

                • Try generalising more mate. Not every post on here is overly entitled, or ill-explained, or unfounded, or unnecessary, or rude etc. A lot of it is very well justified constructive criticism, deeply reasoned and put forward in a mature and understanding way. You see negativity on the forum and blame the negative people whether they're making a fair point or not and that makes you worse, not better. Nearly all of what you just wrote is conjecture and some of it either greatly exaggerated or not true, but said anyway to help make your point. Per example: "...recently, Bungie brought back Year 1 weapons after we begged for their return, but all we did after was point fingers, saying Bungie refuses to provide fresh content. We act like spoiled brats..." Nope. The reaction to Etheric Light was overwhelmingly positive. The vast majority of players were very grateful they could upgrade VoG weapons etc, I was one of them, and the forums at the time reflected that. There will always be idiots on the internet, ignore them. Tired of the do-gooders on here tarring everyone with the "self-entitled" brush because of a handful of idiots.
