Theory: Year two players will not get the exotic sword...
That step where you have to grind for hours for relic iron or whatever you need for your sword quest, I have a theory thats where they will give up. They dont remember the days back in year one before you could just buy all materials...you had to grind for them. Year one vets remember the grind for relic, helium, spinmetal and sprit bloom. I think they will give up because their not used to it, their used to being able to buy it. Just a thought I had during the grind.
Edit: Just a tip: Dont do a void sword on a hunter. The 500 kills you have to get with void abilities is insane. The bow kills only count if you kill them with the arrow and the grenades are ok'ish and melees are not void. Pretty much had to get 500 grenade kills... :/
Edit: Damn...all I did was have a thought while doing the grind and thought I would come here to express my theory. I didn't know you bastereds world run my phone battery dead, cause it vibrates every 2 seconds for a new notification...lol
Edit: And you think the horror ends there....o no. Next Wednesday, I think you have to do a light lvl 300 strike.

I've done both solar and void on a hunter. Well I still need to do the strike at the end but I did farm all the materials and ability kills on my hunter. I also began playing Destiny when TDB was released so I started out being able to buy the materials. If people want the sword they'll grind it out.

1 ReplyWish they would bring back trading in planetary materials for shards and stuff. Of course now it would be motes and strange coins or something but still, materials pop up every where and I actually delete them now for space issues.

tip for hunters who get void edge mission: The dark beyond perks: lockdown grenade: voidwall right when you get to the "we've woken the hive" part, just chuck your grenade at the door as the thralls poor out. then kill yourself after they all are dead, repeat process. should take 45 minutes at most

It's not that bad actually. Did circles when you spawn in to collect materials. Then dark beyond with quiver equipped to guarantee three kills then both grenades while the rest are tethered.

The strike was actually pretty easy, just took a tad bit longer, though the new ghosts can detect materials, imagine back in the day of chest runs if we had a Shadowstalker, you'd always have one in the party lol

By that logic we should never have been able to grind year one because we couldn't handle it :P

Haven't started the Quests yet, question, can you move the swords to other charters before reaching that stage of the quest if someone made the mistake of choosing void on hunter etc.?

Lol yep. I have 400 or more of each material still in my vault. A remnant of the farming days when I was always short of mats.

Interesting thought, but being a year two doesn't exactly mean you are new to the grind of games like this.

I got the crucible sword kills in 3 matches with an empty sword. Didn't even bother grabbing heavy. Died a lot but had some epic kills, including going toe to toe with a blade dancer and somehow winning. It was the most fun I had in the crucible in a long time even though we lost two out of the three matches

I chose the void sword as a Hunter and it was painful indeed. I ended up using The Dark Beyond, and it only went up 2% every time I spawned and killed everything. Took so -blam!-ing long, I never want to do it again.

2 RepliesJust "awaken the hive" with lucky raspberry and voidwall grenades. Got mine in no time :P That mission is like the answer to so many kill farming problems.

It was easy, I had a ton of luck, I got 3 fragments in a row, and then like 1 every five or so, I did it in 34 mins ( timed it since everyone said it took forever )
