I can't take Dead Orbit seriously
I simply cannot take Dead Orbit seriously. The whole premise of their faction is that they're running from the darkness.
New Monarchy wants to rebuild the golden age.
Future War Cult is preparing for what they feel is an inevitable war.
Why would anyone align with Dead Orbit based on their beliefs? Does anyone seriously believe in DO's mission to basically cut and run?
I'm convinced that at minimum 90% of Dead Orbit followers are only so due to the shaders and not the factional beliefs therefore I can't take Dead Orbit nor their followers seriously.
EDIT: So I actually have Revenant and have leveled DO, I just can't find reason to stick with DO...DO = Cowards has just been burned into my mind.

1 ReplyI really hope that in the Taken King, the quests will help to expand on their lore. Right now if I were to base solely on Grimoire lore, FWC is probably the most interseting, but DO has the very juicy perks of having some great rewards for siding with them..

3 RepliesPeople don't care what the factions represent since they mean nothing to the lore or outcome. They join dead orbit for the armor shader.

If the traveler dies, the darkness would be able to enter the inner solar system. Therefore if the traveler does not heal, we cannot stop a force such as the darkness. It would come into our system and eliminate all of the planets within it and we would not stand a chance. Aligning with dead orbit would be the best choice in this situation. They would get all of us out before the collapse of Earth and the inner planets and after that all we would have to worry about are the fallen because the hive, vex, and cabal would not pursue us and the fallen (eliksni) would blame us and continue to follow us. That's why I would follow dead orbit if I gave enough of a shit to level it.

I mean... we really don't know. Destiny is pretty much a space opera and I wouldn't be surprised if this all ends with us discovering that the Darkness is something that, no matter how many times we win individual battles against it, simply cannot be beaten. We may learn this a bit too late and realize that we should have listened to DO all along. That would be ideal, anyway. I'm not expecting Bungie to pull off anything super sophisticated so I'm sure the Darkness will end up just being some giant black ball that we'll swat with a sword of light or something and say "yay cool we did it"

If you going by ideals and lore I agree with you. FWC all the way. War is inevitable and part of human nature even in real life. But I'm pretty sure moT of destiny players don't do it because of lore. They do it for shaders. Me on the other hand, the grimore for FWC is very interesting.

Lore wise I follow new monarchy. Back when I didn't know there were shaders for the factions I was with them. Then I went to dead orbit for shaders.

What other reason is there for joining a faction? Nothing. You join for the shaders, ships and sometimes weapons. Not because you're interested in what the faction wants. In fact they might as well all be the same faction, just with different colors

Said it before and will say it again. Dead Orbit has the stupidest philosophy, but the most sane of the factions, so I side with them. All these factions..hoo boy..
