The GameInformer article about TTK says Bungie will be implementing something like the PoE mechanic where if you try to stay behind you'll get warped to the front lines. It doesn't say how this will work specifically but anything would be good.

How does that prevent afk?

I don't know, maybe there's more than just that. I would guess you'll die if you are afk and get pushed to the front lines which might be a problem for some. If they don't respawn it will be obvious they are afk and it will be easier to report them. I guess we shall see.

But, what if it's a darkness zone? People don't get booted for inactivity if they're waiting to be revived.

Well, I guess you could revive them, if you want. I don't have any answers, we will have to wait for TTK to see how it works.
