This Week In Destiny – 12/14/2023

Dec 14, 2023 - Destiny 2 Community Team

This week in Destiny, we celebrate the Dawning.

The decorations are up in the Tower and the smell of cookies is in the air as Guardians span out across the galaxy to deconstruct their enemies for baking materials. This is our last TWID for the year, so let's get to it.

Topics for this week:

  • The Dawning is live
  • The Great Dawning Bake Off winners
  • Fireteam Finder Beta launch
  • A year of giving
  • End-of-year stats
  • New Prime Gaming drop

‘Tis the Season

The Dawning returned this week with a vengeance, and it’s once against time to sleigh your enemies. Here is a one-minute, action-packed preview of the event.

Start spreading Dawning cheer by delivering cookies... or Dawning fear by delivering snowballs to your foes’ faces. Learn more about what the Dawning has to offer on our event page or by perusing last week’s TWID.

Let Them Bake

Guardians, your preheated ovens have cooled, the flour dust has settled, and it’s time for us to show off our favorite creations you came up with for The Great Dawning Bake Off.

To the victors go the spoils, and each of these Guardians is taking home the Draconis Tetrachroma and Art of the Week emblems to commemorate putting their masterful baking skills on display. Thank you to everyone who shared their culinary prowess. We enjoyed getting to marvel at everyone’s sweet Dawning tributes.

Find Your Fireteams

Last week, we continued our careful roll out of the new Fireteam Finder Beta, and the results were solid. Following the second test last Wednesday, all gauges were in the green, so we decided to let it roll with all activities enabled.

If you haven’t got a chance to watch the Fireteam Finder preview video yet, we have what might be the most thrilling trailer for a matchmaking feature you’ve ever seen.

Fireteam Finder has already proven to be invaluable for quickly getting Guardians extra backup to tackle the more difficult activities in Destiny 2. Now that we have expanded the beta to all activities, you can use it to find friends to run some chill strikes, go PvP wild in Iron Banner, or start a dance party in the Tower. We’ve loved watching how you use this new tool to build fireteams and hopefully new friendships, and we can’t wait to see all the cool new ways you’ll utilize it in the future.

We are going to leave the beta tag on for a bit longer because we want to work on some small updates like adding emojis and we have some bugs to fix. But don’t worry, we promise not to run this beta as long as Guided Games. We’re hoping to remove the tag early next year.

Speaking of bug fixes, we fixed the issue with checkpoints getting lost in Update 7.3.0.3 earlier this week, and we have a list of known issues we are tracking in the Player Support Report below.

We shared some stats on Fireteam Finder last week, and we have a couple more fun facts for you. Here are the top-three activities where we've seen groups form via Fireteam Finder:

  • Dungeons: 43.3%
  • Raids: 26.5%
  • Free Roam: 21.1%

Lost Sector completion rate by Fireteam Finder groups:

  • Aphelion's Rest: 84%
  • Bay of Drowned Wishes: 77%
  • Scavenger’s Den: 73%
  • Skydock IV: 73%
  • The Quarry: 70%

Thank you so much for coming along with us on this journey and helping us do our final tests at scale in the live game. If you haven’t had a chance to try Fireteam Finder out yet, we hope you will find some time and wish you a great experience. Here’s to great days ahead of building robust fireteams to tackle anything that stands in your way.

A Year of Giving

As we head into the holiday season and close out 2023, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate and thank you for all the good that this community has helped bring into the world. To date, your generous support has helped us raise $3.2 million this year!

This money has already been put to work helping communities and changing lives around the globe. This real-world impact includes:

  • Over $730,000 raised for the combined relief and recovery efforts in Turkey and Syria after the devastating February earthquake and in Maui  when the August wildfires left the island in ruins.
  • 47 wishes granted for Make-A-Wish so far this year, including a very special Wish Day for Destiny superfan, Wyatt, at our headquarters in Bellevue
  • Three new partner organizations onboarded into the Little Lights program, bringing our total to 14 across the globe.

We are continually humbled by the generosity of the community, and it is important to know that all this good is only made possible by each and every one of you. Thank you. And just in case you missed it earlier this summer, some familiar voices from Destiny also wanted to express their gratitude.

Our sights are set on having a truly remarkable 2024 with some very exciting updates on the horizon. With that said, we are happy to announce that we will be kicking off the new year with Game2Give, celebrating the campaign’s fifth anniversary, from January 18 to February 4, 2024. Be sure to follow @BungieLove for updates over the coming weeks.

We wish you all a wonderful holiday and happy New Year!

KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help forum:

  • Purchasing Riven’s Gifts in Riven’s Lair while other players activate the portal results in an extremely loud noise.
  • Defeating Broken Knights too quickly in Warlord’s Ruin may result in players being blocked from progressing in the encounter.
  • The health of the bubble generated by the Edge of Action Glaive is lower than intended.
  • The Warlord’s Ruin Solo Flawless Completions tracker uses the incorrect dungeon name in the description.
  • Gunsmith Engrams acquired by players do not appear in the Engram Tracker.
  • “Finding Fireteam...” appears on friend’s invite inspection screen even if not using Fireteam Finder.
  • Text characters in Fireteam Finder chat may appear individually spaced out.
  • The Coil 100K point Weekly Challenge may not successfully reset weekly.

Not Movie of the Week, This is Just a Tribute

Every week we pick a video, sometimes a few, to celebrate here in the TWID. This week we are featuring a heartfelt tribute to Destiny.

Movie of the Week: A Tribute to Destiny

Movie of the Week: Def-Yeeted.

For Every Rose...

Well, you all are certainly enjoying Thorn. It has amazing looks, a strong Exotic trait, mind-blowing lore, and now a very fitting catalyst, both for PvP and PvE players. It's one of Destiny's most emblematic and well-known Exotic Hand Cannons, and this rendition is the cherry (or the Remnant) on top.

As we stated above, this is the final TWID of the year. We will be taking a break around the holidays and then returning to your usual TWID time and TWID channel starting on January 18. We aren’t going radio silent and will definitely still be around, but our D2Team accounts will likely be quieter over this time than they have been the past few weeks, so don’t fret. We will back at it soon.

It’s been a year with a lot of ups and downs, but we appreciate you all for being a part of this community. Our team is cooking up a lot of cool stuff, and we look forward to sharing it with you. Next year is going to be a lot of fun. Have a great holiday season, Guardians.

Until next time,
