Destiny 2: Into the Light and The Final Shape Gameplay Preview Recap

Apr 9, 2024 - Destiny 2 Team

Today, we shared a peek at some of the amazing work our team has been doing to make The Final Shape an incredible experience when it arrives on June 4. This article recaps today’s Developer Gameplay Preview and the awesome content available today for all players with Destiny 2: Into the Light.

Heading into The Final Shape

Prismatic Subclass

For the first time, Guardians who harness Prismatic will be able to mix and match Arc, Solar, Void, Stasis, and Strand—combining them to unlock new potential in power and customization.

But this isn’t just about remixing abilities. You’ll be able to break the known limits of Light and Darkness by entering Transcendence, a state only possible when using the Prismatic subclass. By dealing both Light and Darkness damage you will charge two meters that, when filled, enable a temporary state of Transcendence that unlocks a new unique grenade ability and weapon damage bonuses.

New Buildcrafting Possibilities

Along with Prismatic comes Aspects and Fragments to further customize your build and enable combos you never thought possible. And—good news—players only need to unlock these Aspects and Fragments once to get them for every class. You will also be getting more Aspect and Fragment options than ever before.

Titans

Hunters

Warlocks

Exotic Class Items

Guardians can push their Prismatic builds even further with the new Exotic class items coming in The Final Shape. Exotic class items work specifically with the Prismatic subclass and will each roll with two random Exotic perks inspired by a selection of other Exotic armor pieces, even from different classes. That means a Hunter could have an Exotic cloak with some of the unique qualities of Assassin's Cowl combined with parts of Liar's Handshake. On the other hand, Warlocks could get an Exotic bond roll with perks of Apotheosis Veil and Star-Eater Scales and Titans could get an Exotic mark with parts of Ophidian Aspect and Precious Scars.

Meet the Dread

Subjugators and Tormentors were just the beginning and now are joined by the full force of the new enemy faction, the Dread. The Grim take flight like bats with guns and use their screeching voice to suppress your abilities. The Husk are melee bruisers that can still try to take you down, even after they have been destroyed, by unleashing a Geist. The Attendant and Weavers are Stasis and Strand wielders respectively who will use their Darkness powers to freeze you in place and pull you across the battlefield. You'll have to adapt and find new tactics to defeat these new foes in battle.

And More to Come

We have a lot more to share about The Final Shape before you can play it on June 4. The first bit of info comes tomorrow, when we will drop a Dev Insight article with more information about Prismatic.

Destiny 2: Into the Light is Live

The time has come. Destiny 2: Into the Light, the two-month content update open to all players, starts today! The enemy has launched an attack to prevent humanity from accessing the portal into the Traveler. The stakes have never been higher... but when has that been a problem for Guardians?

Here is a look at everything coming with Destiny 2: Into the Light.

Let the Onslaught Begin

In this new PvE wave-based defensive activity, fireteams of three will defend their Advanced Defense Unit from increasingly challenging waves of the Witness’s forces for some very desirable rewards. Check out our previous TWID for more details about how Onslaught works.

Arm Yourself

The BRAVE arsenal is a collection of some of the most iconic weapons in Destiny's history. From The Recluse to Midnight Coup, each of the 12 weapons will have random rolls, a brand-new Origin Trait, and both standard and limited-edition variants. Check out the roadmap above for when all these weapons become available.

Enter the Hall of Champions

Destiny 2: Into the Light will include a new social space called the Hall of Champions. Within its walls, Lord Shaxx and Arcite 99-40 await with new quests, BRAVE weapon rewards, a unique armor set for each class, and the Superblack shader. Read more about it in the 3/28 TWID

The Whisper and Zero Hour

We’ve revamped two of the most beloved Exotic missions with updated rewards, secrets, and combat. The Whisper is coming back today with the chance to earn a craftable version of Whisper of the Worm and many secrets to discover. Zero Hour, with its craftable Outbreak Perfected, arrives on May 14. Read more about them in the 4/4 TWID

A New Challenge: Pantheon

thisweekatbungie-7_28_22.png

We are keeping our upcoming PvE challenge close to the chest until it begins on April 30. Let's just say that Pantheon involves you, your fireteam, and an increasingly angrier group of raid bosses. We don’t want to spoil who you face off against, but it will be from encounters currently available if you want to start speculating. Though a few of them might have a twist.

We will share a few more details on the overall structure and rewards in the TWID later this week.

PvP Maps and Updates

We have three new PvP maps dropping on May 7. They have been designed for 3v3 modes, and are called Eventide Labs, Cirrus Plaza, and Dissonance. We’ll share more information about all three soon, but for now, we have a new modifier for Crucible Labs called Hardware, and some changes to the Competitive playlist game modes.

Combat Sandbox Tuning

Today's update includes some weapons changes. Scout and Pulse Rifles will feel a bit stronger in PvE, while Auto Rifles (and Forerunner) have been nerfed a bit for PvP. We also included some bug fixes. For instance, Precision Shotguns no longer require one extra pellet to take down beefy Guardians. More details in the 4/4 TWID

Quality-of-Life Updates

The list of updates is long and we covered them in our April 4 TWID, but here’s a summary:

  • You will have an additional chance to change your Bungie Name.
  • You can now re-customize your character’s appearance (but not their origin) any time, for no cost.
  • Strand Fragments are getting their cost reduced.
  • Text chat will be on by default.
  • We are making the New Light experience more approachable.

For those of you looking to know everything that's changing with Destiny 2: Into the Light, here's a link to the patch notes for Update 7.3.6, launching today.

Destiny 2: Into the Light is packed with content that we hope will satisfy the hardcore players that want to prove themselves, the collectors aiming to have the strongest weapons, and the New Lights looking to join their friends in the stars.

Be brave, Guardians.
