Every piece of iron banner armor I acquired two weeks ago is now obsolete. To top things off, reforging my iron banner weapons doesn't give it the new base stats. This game has been tough to love from the beginning but you finally did it Bungie, congratulations.
The key to ultimately losing a player is to make them feel like they've been wasting their time playing.
EDIT: I'm glad to see a heated dialogue has sparked from my gripes. A lot of you have made some very interesting points. Some of you just enjoy the chance to verbally abuse the OP. Either way, happy hunting guardians.

Completly agree. The game is just repition and grinding. Then when you eventually max out gear there is new gear that involves more repition and grinding :p saw iron banner reset again and not going to play it anymore its a lot of effort for nothing really. Iron banner should be made permanent and can get IB commendations and rank higher for newer gear. The area where the IB stall is set up has room for permanent guilds like the IB or Queens wrath and anymore that bungie can come up with in future

The big error was letting people buy gear better than VoG gear. It should have been- Vendors: 30 Light Iron Banner: 33 light DLC Raid: 36 light That would have: Made it so VOG wasn’t immediately inferior to vendor gear. Give a good reason for people to chase IB gear. Preserved Bungie’s odd new raid economy

Never bothered last time. Had a feeling this would happen. Doubt I will this time. Don't really have the time to plug away at it. Happy pottering around with pve
-
Omg *waaa, waaa*when multiple people have all 32 gear from the raid like myself btw my hunter AND warlock are 32! there is no point to play ib for 31 gear! And mediocre weapons thank you
The key to ultimately losing a player is to make them feel like they'e been wasting their time playing.
Don't we play VIDEO GAMES just to waste time?

Edited by UnwanteDreamz: 12/17/2014 9:26:59 PMFeelings are personal subjective things. If you feel like you wasted time you did. Gaming is a hobby and like most hobbies a huge time killer. I feel like I'm wasting time anytime I game.
-
Why grind IB rep, when you can just go to a vendor and get the exact same armor easier?
-
Agreed. I'm not quiting just playing other games as well. They should have buffed old raid gear to 33 light and made new vanguard gear have 30.

Edited by DocHolliday7676: 12/18/2014 9:02:06 AMI can def understand why you'd be upset SippCupSamurai. If I do win a sick piece of armor or weapon I can use it in other parts of the game right? Ever since DB released I've gotten way more legendary items, and for me, level 25 its great I'ts helping me finally get there... but to someone who is 27-30 and has grinded over 70 hours or whatever and now has all obsolete items... I would be pissed... its like they broke the game to force everyone to continue grinding and the best most dedicated players were punished the worse... is that their "ten year plan"? i can see how this would be tough to avoid on their part but I could see solving by providing a less costly item trade in/reset, its bad enough losing your perks on a weapon or armor piece..... Either way I still love the game, its def groundbreaking with its social and mp elements

Since my iron banner rank always resets, I'm never going to it again haha. There's really no point, the auto rifle they have is just like all the other auto rifles from all the vendors but with different looks and perks. Big whoop. For all those who enjoy iron banner, power to you. I personally don't care for it because I don't see a reward worthy and if my rank keeps resetting I see no point in ever doing it again.
-
And if new armour and weapons never came out you'd all complain that there was no progression and everyone had the same weapons and armour and that there wasn't enough variation. It keeps you working towards being a powerful player, and gives others a chance to be powerful to, with new and interesting weapons and armour.
The key to ultimately losing a player is to make them feel like they've been wasting their time playing.
Agreed. Since the new IB hit and I saw just what you saw, I now feel much less motivation to play the way I've been playing. A little time to chase a bounty? Maybe. The IB Gear should have been Light Level 32 (the same as IB2 was LL30 ... on par with Raid). That ALONE was a slap in the face. IB Gear is fundamentally less useful than Raid, or Vendor. - It takes glimmer farming to get (most tedious grinding than anything else) - It takes IB grind to get (not so bad and can be fun at least) - Sharding IB weapons/armor get you NOTHING (no energy, no shards, no glimmer). Not even if you've invested shards or energy INTO the weapon (let alone the glimmer to buy the weapon and again to upgrade it). Sharding any other Legendary gets you SOMETHING. No better way to tell your players they've wasted their time than this.

Your old iron banner gear became obsolete the second the dlc released.
-
I've always accepted the fact that video games are technically a waste of time, but it's completely different when the developer points that out to you by make everything you have accomplished in the past obsolete. I could have started playing last week and be in the same spot with my characters as I am now.
-
Raid players can come into IB and compete at top level and throw their weight around, even as a 32 but they don't want IB players to be on equal footing with their gear in the raid. Double standard!
-
I really want that sniper.
The key to ultimately losing a player is to make them feel like they've been wasting their time playing.
Yes sir couldnt agree more
-
The main problem with iron banner id that when your done with the gear it doesn't even give you a shard after dumping 18 into them to upgrade. I mean really not one single shard for dismantling -blam!- that shit.
-
I too found it to be a kick in the balls. But given the general flavor of the DLC, it was not a surprise.
-
So what? If players didn't have something new to aim for they wouldn't play. Stop crying.
-
Lol! I thought of it the exact opposite way, I was happy that I can upgrade my IB gear to better stats.. And I don't see it as a waste of time, i had fun doing the last IB and i'm enjoying this one to..
-
Very disappointed that the weapons do not upgrade on a reforge, wasted 2 motes just to find out, poor execution on the developers part, thoughtless and uninspiring. They appear to be unaware of the minor and simple things that would keep peeps wanting to play.
-
I'm glad they set up up like this because they will realize the IB is a stupid event most people played just because the vault's loot system was retarded. Hopefully they will make events that are fun to play in the future regardless of rewards
-
Edited by reborland98: 12/17/2014 8:15:12 PMBecause you can't raid? Haha don't play PvP then man if you want to kill other people then do it but you should try to raid more often... Edit- never mind I see you raid didn't check your characters lol sorry haven't played Destiny in a while...

Video games are supposed to be fun. I ENJOY playing the game, and getting rewards. Getting something great is as good as it is because it doesn't happen all the time. They provide plenty of ways to get to a high enough level to participate in everything. 2 faction armors, an exotic and one iron banner = level 31. Mix and match. The iron banner armor isn't useless it's just not the best. You have to get the best by earning it. And it's difficult to do that because you can't just grind it. The guns aren't useless, they're just not the best. I love going through everything again and having something to work towards. I have great guns that do 300 damage, now I have to earn the new gear. Besides all that gear is equal on level 26 strikes, 30 nightfalls/missions and crucible
