Iron Banner is an embarrassment
I love how much Iron Banner was hyped up and how DeeJ and all the other employees at Bungie advertised it as a game mode in which better armor and better weapons actually matter when in reality there is a difference so small in the level advantage that it's basically not even there. As a level 29-30 with full raid armor it takes me the same time to kill a level 6 as it does to kill a level 26. Multiple times I have been shut down by level 9 players with the shingen-c or level 19 players with the shingen-e at the same rate in which they'd shut me down in regular crucible. I tested this out by swapping out my Vanquisher for the BEGINNING AUTO RIFLE you pick up in the first mission and I managed to get second place easily. I further tried this out by deranking myself by wearing all blue armor instead of my usual all raid gear and exotics and what do you know, I was getting killed at the same rate as if I was still level 30 and killing at the same rate as if I had my Vanquisher or Monte Carlo. This is an embarrassment and a huge -blam!- you to us from Bungie.
PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU'VE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES!

Actually, the starter auto rifle is surprisingly good. It's got very controllable recoil, giving you easy headshot bonus damage. Plus, I've made actual comparisons with video. It takes a considerable amount of time to kill someone between te starter and a level 20 blue. About a full second in fact. This may sound short, but it is actually very useful in fact. Plus, when people usually die in 3-4 seconds, that's a full second being shaved off. Basically, someone has to get behind you and hit you wth every shot, or else they can turn around and demolish you. I know first handed as I tried iron banner with a level 2. Strategy is needed and is extremely important. In fact, I found it more fun then being high leveled because I felt like I earned each kill. But it is considerably harder to survive as a low level.

its clearly a way to have more pretend content.....all they had to do was slap together a few "rewards" and new rep...then call the crucible iron banner...and its an easy way to phone in content they promised to release throughout the game to keep it fresh....All i can say is keep this sort of antics in mind when bungie rolls out any game in the future....and remember the kind of things they do as a company and vote with your wallets

33 RepliesHonest question to those complaining about the Iron Banner - have you ever played other shooters? Like at all? Well I have - I've played CoD a lot and love the BF series. Interesting thing about those shooters? Levels don't always indicate how good someone is. You can do well as a low level, if you play smart, utilize the strengths of your kit, and have a good shot. Maybe the reason why some of you are getting beaten by lower level players isn't because the Iron Banner is broken, but because those players are actually better at a competitive multiplayer shooter than you? You know - better at: a) controlling recoil? b) navigating the map? c) thinking smart? lol - just because you are struggling agiainst a lower level guy, it doesn't mean that there's somethin wrong with the game - it more than likely means that you are being outworked, out skilled, and out-thought. So adjust. OR, come onto a forum and embarrass yourself. You pick.

iv done a few matches in iron banner and iv taken down anything from lvl 10 to lvl 30 with my shotgun hide and seek.... they all seem to die very quickly even if they have a huge amount of defence my shotgun still does one shot kill pretty much... downside is i do have to get very close.

Yeah, I see your point, but the moment I've seen it make a difference are usually in those fractions of seconds, where you end up slogging another guy to death or a quicker draw on the shotgun. All in all I've played it enough to see an edge, but it's a close range edge.

1 ReplyI'm a level 30 and I play with a maxed out Devil You Know handcannon. I can confirm that it is MARGINALLY more powerful than in regular crucible. It takes 3.5 shots to kill rather than the usual 4. It is the same as regular crucible in that it is still dominated by shotgun/Suros/fusion rifle/mythoclast. My maxed legendary handcannon still doesn't hold a candle to a rare auto rifle because much like the crucible, the Iron Banner is an unbalanced piece of trash. If everything is going to do the same damage, just make preset classes for RNGesus sake, don't tell us the gear we grinded for will give us a notable advantage when it quite obviously doesn't.

No different than regular crucible. Level 11 running on my team doing just as good as everyone else in 20+ range. Also, very slanted teams. Both games my team came in with literally half as many points as the winning team despite best efforts. Sucks to lose, sucks even more to go 20/10 and get zilch. Not even some rep love... Did I miss something? Is Iron Banner only control? I figured "best of the best" would translate to a whole crucible experience. How do you say you're the top guardian if you can't do some solo death match and not rely on the work of others? I'm no free-for-all master, but thinking in terms of context... IB doesn't make a lick of sense :/ Silver medal = 1st to lose :/ Not even an ounce of rep either. Ick. No soup for you! Passing on this special event. Not my cup of tea... despite the cool looking armor.

Yeah, it's definitely not what I thought it'd be. I noticed very little difference in performance over just plain ole crucible. I felt player stats meant absolute zero unless they had the mythoclast.

1 ReplyI got rocked by a lvl 14 that knew his way around a sniper rifle and I worked over a lvl 28 who seemed like he had butter for armor. All, but one lvl 29 fell with four or less shots from my Deviant Gravity-A. A lvl 8 took me out with shotgun to the back of the head with my health at half. I played for 3 hours today and had a blast.

Like each level someone is below you, they take 10% more damage and you receive 10% less damage from them, up to a certain point like 30%. So a lvl 28 would do 20% more damage to a lvl 26 and the lvl 26 would do 20% less damage to a lvl 28. This would make it so that it's not impossible for lower level players to kill higher level players but at the same time they would have to work for it. I guess I just expected this to be 'endgame' content for lvl 26+ players. But apparently that assumption was way off base and realistically it's just Control with a new name and a rep grind attached. I feel bad for everyone who got excited about this 'event', especially those Guardians that spend their time almost exclusively doing PvP.

4 RepliesI went into Iron Banner kind of nervous funnily enough because I remember when I did it in beta at lvl 5 against lvl 8s. But after playing a bunch of matches the past 2 days, it doesn't feel that different. On the one hand, it's relieving to know I'm not going to be slaughtered by someone with no skill and an exotic but on the other, it gets kind of disheartening to get crushed by a lvl 3 with a white auto rifle that can hit harder than my Shadow Price. I don't understand the scaling in this thing at all.

I haven't played Iron Banner for the reason that it's just a regular Control match and I don't like Control. It's a fact the level and gear difference is negligible at best. It just is. Games as of late have gone right down the shithole, no stories just LAME online play thats repetitive bullshittery untill they release some more dlc that we ALREADY PAID FOR!!! I had hopes that bungie would be the devs of all devs to break the monotony but nope they got on the bandwagon with the rest of the greedy kunts!! Iron banner is a freakin joke they just upped the amount of damage everyone deals obviously equally haha FALSE ADVERTISING YET AGAIN

The way they talked about this event and hyped it up I figured this would be a place where the hardcore PVP crowd and the level 28s-30s with their full legendary gear could go and compete to see who is the best. The people who suck at PVP like me can stay in the crucible while the hardcore crowd gets their epic showdowns with other good players. That is what I expected it to be, then seeing everything coming out about it, its just more overhyped garbage and lies from the developers.

2 Repliesi literally had no idea that weapon power applied in Iron Banner until tonight from the forums. first, it's a crappy idea, all it really does is give an advantage to players that are most likely better and more experienced for playing the game longer. they, in turn, are more likely to earn the rewards... it's like the rich getting richer and the poor getting nowhere. secondly, I am a level 24 using an auto rifle and sniper rifle and I hit a 3.5 KD earlier. The whole "pulse rifle and shotgun" only thing is mild nonsense. Yes, they are really friggin' strong, sometimes it can be frustrating getting one shot killed by a shotty, but all in all good strategy and play with a trusty auto rifle wins out and the top scorers in all my matches seem to use auto rifles primarily. Also I'm a Titan, which I've come to realise is potentially the worst class for the crucible as you don't have all the crazy stuff the Warlock has that seems to also have priority and you can't run around hacking everyone up as a Hunter.

Big difference between IB and Crucible. IB I got K/D high of 3.5. In IB, my K/D is usually .75.

1 ReplyThe rewards system was designed horribly. By only giving the winners rep there is no reason for the losing team to leave the game. GG guys lol, I haven't even bothered jumping into a match.... think I'll wait to get a team of 6 and farm it all in 1 day.
