What do you think drives a great MMO? Does Destiny have that drive or is it just a FPS on Roids?
Think of Halo, CoD, Boarderlands, and Battlefield then compare it to FF Online, WoW, Diablo, and DragonAge. Skyrim, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy Metal Gear.
MMO's/ FPS/RPG's. Where does Destiny truly fall?

The title needs work. Just spend 10 seconds looking at it, you'll see.

They already stated they arent

It's a shooter, not necessarily an MMO...not necessarily an RPG, but it may remind you of some of your favourite elements Quote from DeeJ, interviewed by the UK's Official Playstation Mag earlier this year

Whether bungie wants to admit it or not they did make a small version of a mmo. The fact they made the loot system the way they did screams mmo to me. This game is one of those love/hate relationships that everyone has. It gameplay is superb, pvp is decent, but the thing we all expected from bungie was a great story but they didn't deliver in that part of any kind of game you play. It just feels so slapped together and having to leave the game to get back story is kinda of a pain. It was a nifty idea but it should be in the game also.

This game is nothing but empty caves.
-
Easy, raid matchmaking drives it. Hence, destiny is a failure.

It's basically borderlands but you need to call your friends to join you unlike destiny where it makes you go online. It's shooting and it's looting just like borderlands but without humor, fun and interesting story, and didn't even provide me with just the simplest of info on characters. In destiny: "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain." In borderlands: " Lilith, the fire hawk" thing in the background of the character when you meet them. Even that would've been nice in destiny, with just a little bit of funny info.

This game is not an MMO, obviously. If it was, we'd actually be able to EXPLORE. The exploration of this game is similar to that of the game RAGE. Looks open, actually quite linear.

Edited by SilentKarma: 12/21/2014 2:53:13 PMDestiny is NOT an MMO. BUNGIE said it and I agree. Even made a post about it the other day. I loved Borderlands 2 but I don't consider that one either. These are games with Co OP. Usually modern mmos have less party and exploration restrictions. We could do a 6 man team for just about anything if it were. And lobbies for anything max out at 16.. You consider that MASSIVELY multiplayer? I don't. It's just regular old coop with varying party sizes. I mean every darkness zone stops other gamers from joining your specific mission or even being seen by you or helping. It stops all interaction and created a regular coop mission. That happens in every story mission except patrol and even some patrols create restricted access darkness zones limiting interaction. Bungie didn't call it an MMO because they don't want it held to that standard of content and community interaction. Because it can't be compared to that level! The content is lacking and the restrictions or flat out lack of community interaction can be glaring. And the expansions would be held to a higher standard which would mean those reviews would be even worse! They shouldn't have called it an expansion anyway, just dlc. Destiny is a multiplayer game, it has a few modern multiplayer features and somewhat shared areas but it is NOT an MMO.

Destiny is a FPS that was given crack, making it think it was a MMO

Edited by GreyPooponya: 12/21/2014 2:58:16 PMDestiny is a f2p model mmo based on FarmVille. The fps part is the only reason I play. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/farmville-is-kind-of-malicious-says-braid-creator/1100-6416873/

Edited by Britton: 12/21/2014 1:39:29 PMFPS are driven by PvP. MMOs are driven by raid/endgame content and gear RPGs are driven by story Destiny is a jack of all trades and master of none.

Its a Shared-World-FPS with RPG elements. 16 people sharing the tower server and maybe 6-8 in the world is not MMO... GTA Online is 30 on a server, FPS (if option is enabled), with character RPG elements, does that mean people call GTA Online a MMO? No...
-
no it's just an broke RPG / Action game
-
Destiny is a standard shooter with loot...its nothing like WoW or any other mmo and i don't know why that all started? Bungie even said its not an mmo way back yet everyone still compares it to an mmo. To me its more of a halo with loot and a ton of busy work to make you feel like the game has depth.
-
Character progression. The one thing that always draws me back to a MMO is character progression, something that feels kind of lacking in Destiny after level 20.
-
None of these alone drive an mmo all of these with many other factors drive an mmo. and this is not a mmo IMO it is a poor excuse for an skinner box experiment so bungie can get in on the pay to play games for destiny 2.
-
Fpsmmo, just a down scaled mmo. Mmos we know are on a much larger scale than this. But a small scale fpsrpg...mmo
-
In my humble opinion it's a hybrid fpsmmorpg. Videogame genres are constantly changing and evolving, you can't just label a game like destiny as an FPS. Halo, that's an fps. Call of duty, fps. Destiny is not the same.

I would not class destiny as an mmo. For me Mmo,s that have been enjoyable for me have had distinctive clans,teams,alliances.wings. This needs to be in game, with ways to chat and message and identify each other with badges on uniforms or ships etc etc.this is the heart of mmos for me.and a wing vault etc,and member rank lists.the things that truly tie you together in a common group. Not saying Good or bad just saying for me destiny is not in the mmo world. My opinion.

Edited by Uriyaal: 12/21/2014 10:50:56 AManyone who thinks anything besides the community makes an mmo is -blam!-ing stupid. I'm sorry but your gaming community in any mmo can easily make or break an mmo. being a social mammal this is all we need even over , game play. and personally i've been in more mmo's then i can count. since back in the day when they were text based muds, moos, and mogs. the complexity and compassion of others can easily sway a mediocre game into greatness. unfortunately for today's youths compassion and complexity are null N void. Story makes an MMO? Uh, hell no. Look at World of Warcraft. It's PvE, PvP and content.
Content? What is content? What is story? - Bungievision.
MMO doesn't tell anyone about a game. Its so vague that's its little more than a genera modifier.
-
Its nothing with the worth Mmo in it. It is a shooter with some team elements.

Bungie has stated repeatedly that destiny is not an mmo
