Alternate Story for Destiny Revealed - Now it Makes Sense

I'm not claiming I discovered it, but like others that have posted this on the forum, I think it needs to be shared. It all starts making sense now after listening to this guy on YouTube and doing a bit of digging. Talks about upcoming content for Destiny: http://youtu.be/UZ5BpeHVTWY In the video he talks about the original writer and how he left the company for his own reasons, and it's very disappointing because you can tell after playing the game how broken the story actually is. Apparently there was a deleted Reddit post that everyone should probably know about. A cover up so to speak. IGN covered it here: http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/09/29/was-this-the-original-storyline-for-destiny It all starts with a mysterious, and now deleted, Reddit post. The original poster claims to have been invited by Bungie to participate in a user research program. The user notes that they were under a Non-Disclosure Agreement, but believes said agreement is now void post-release. According to the user, the story experienced in the retail version of Destiny isn't the same story they played during 2013. Allegedly, the original idea for Destiny was to focus around a different character, The Crow, who is introduced early on in the story in place of The Stranger. The story then takes an unexpected turn. After being abducted on Earth by Crow's group, which comprises of former, Ghost-less Guardians, the player learns that there's something wrong with one of the group's senior members, The Speaker. What would cause The Speaker to leave The Tower and join The Crow and his band of former Guardians? Well, according the poster, The Traveller – the person responsible for stopping The Darkness – is also the cause of The Darkness. In this version, The Traveller transports The Darkness to Earth with him, bringing on the collapse of The Golden Age, infecting Earth's technology to a point where it nearly wipes out all of humankind. Eventually, the player ends up being sent to Venus to recover a Gatekeeper's eye, which is said to hold a powerful AI. Sound familiar? It should. A mission to Mars then sees the player learn that the Cabal have been harbouring an advanced AI for their own personal gain (Rasputin?). So that's the first few hours. The poster goes on to mention that the internal test group is sent ten hours into the story's future, which again, brings another huge plot change. The AI points to a location on the Moon, The Hellmouth. Inside, the structure harbours a secret super weapon capable of reviving The Traveller out of his dormant stasis to, presumably, unleash havoc on Earth once more. Interestingly, during the first video documentary, the Bungie App features a mission where the player must "Help The Crow loot the academy archive." Over on a different Reddit thread, users have noted that several areas are missing from the retail version. The Seraphim Vault was an area found in the Alpha version via players glitching their way through the game's map. Furthermore, in the official video documentary, foliage-rich areas of Earth can be seen. Have these areas been pulled? The likely explanation, albeit unconfirmed at this point, is that these areas are intended for use in future DLCs – the first of which being The Dark Below and The House of Wolves. Adding further to the theory of an alternate story, back in September, 2013, IGN reported that Bungie's lead writer Joseph Staten had exited the company. “After fifteen great years at Bungie, from the battlefields of Myth to the mysteries of Halo and beyond, I'm leaving to tackle new creative challenges. While this may come as a surprise, fear not. It's been my pleasure building Destiny these past four years, and after the big reveal this Summer, our hugely talented team is on track for greatness. I'll be cheering all of them, with all of you, when the game launches next year. Thank you for your support of me, and your continued support of Bungie. We couldn't have done it without you.” Could Staten's leaving have affected the story? Was the original story not nearly as great as it sounds? Could the reviving of The Traveller, and the introduction of The Crow be a future DLC pack to expand the game's universe? We've reached out to Activision and Bungie for comment and will update once we hear anything.

No I think the reason he left is just like the guy said in the video, they told they weren't going to have time to create the game they wanted and were going to do a rewrite and he left. I would have after 5 years. On the plus side this means there's still hope for destiny in the future, a complete rewrite of the story takes time, and since they decided to butcher the game and basically sell half of what was meant for launch as DLC to buy time, we could actually see good amounts of story, and story that makes some damn sense in future DLCs, provided anybody has the patience to stick with it that long.

I found this video recently and it really makes the story seem more complete, just under emphasized.

        • This saddens me, this games got a lot, the good the bad and the ugly. Either way I'd pay a monthly subscription IF there was more content, but it looks like they keep making things broad in game to maybe save themselves... Who I really feel bad for is DEEJ, poor dude prolly has to put up with this shit and it's not even his fault... Chin up DEEJ, hang in there buddy

        • The game is still fun but i wonder why was so much left out? Maybe they easing people into game by adding more n more content little by little or is it because they butcherd game because they didnt want to make two dif games because of ps3 & xbox360? I think thats the case i feel the only way to incoporate the whole game and not build two diff games for last n next gen is two roll out expansions. This to me seems what bungie plans to do

          • I call bullcrap on the part I'm leaving to tackle new creative challenges. I mean what challange can be greater then building up one of the biggest gaming projects in history of gaming. A 10 year plan full of "greatness"? That makes absolutely no sense. Working on something for 4 years only to leave a few months before release? There was for sure some sort of drama.

            • sorry, but I just can't see Bungie showing beta testers such a huge plot twist, I'd focus more on their experience with the gameplay over spoiling the storyline in a game like this

              • My thoughts on staten leaving is that he simply finished the vast majority of destiny's story! He was hardly going to stay another 4 years until they might require his talent again! He did his job, we just have to wait for multiple DLC's to hear his story!

              • I read these only because the story makes me want so much more than I was given I just need to dig in more even if these were all just a lie or if they did it on purpose to fool us or its true we all read these because we want more to the backstory, current story, and what to look for in the future.

Thinking about the Bungie writer that quit. As an artist, if my employer took my work, that was going to be viewed by millions, and butchered it beyond recognition but still wanted to attribute the credit to me I would be ashamed to even be associated with it. I would probably quit too. A lot of artists take their work very seriously, it's a matter of pride.

                      • You know I had my own theory on the traveler. I was thinking it came to humans so it had someone to defend it since it was clearly gonna die on its own. So it came to us and helped us to save its own skin.

                          • I think that the Queen's Brother is the Crow (he appeared in a Earthly cutscene in the trailer & there are some grimoire cards that tell that the Queen is close/related to a Crow). Maybe in a DLC they will introduce the Crow and play his story. Imagine this: You get a DLC and you meet up with the Queen's Brother in Earth on a Mission to kill some Fallen enemy. Then the Fallen calls him the Crow. You then realize that the Crow is trying to do something against the Speaker, because you realize that the Speaker is not who he seems to be and you need to do some missions in order to help the Crow prepare for a attack on the Speaker. Then one day, you log in and as soon as you turn the game on, you are greeted with a cutscene where the Crow kills the Speaker, then you find that the Crow was the bad one and now he controls the City and your new "Tower" is now on the Reef. OK, maybe no... maybe the DLC will just be a level 28 Devil's Lair *ugh
