Hunters are Underpowered (PvP)

Now this ties in with my other post, where I went in depth with over powered weapons. This time, I will be explaining how the Hunter is underpowered. After discussing it with my friends, I have found many disadvantages compared to the other classes. Let's begin, shall we? Now most of us, if not all, know that the stat specialty for Hunters is Agility. Now what benefits does that give us? Increased running speed and jump height. How does that help us in combat? Either running towards enemies for melee attacks, running towards them with a shotgun, or running the -blam!- away. That sounds great, but is it really? Not when you compare it to the other classes. Titans get armor, increasing health. Warlocks get recovery, which increases how fast your health recovers. Alongside that, Hunters would be considered more melee based than the other two classes, especially with Bladedancer. But are they really better than the other two? Hell no. The Sunsinger subclass gets an ability which allows them to get a damage shield from dealing damage with melee. Melee takes two hits to kill someone in PvP, unless you're fighting a Sunsinger. If the Sunsinger melees you, it takes three hits, but in that time, they can land two on you and kill you. Not so great. Of course there is the drawback of the cooldown, but you only need to get one melee kill, and move onto the next. The Striker subclass gets an ability (optional) which instantly kills you if they are sprinting towards you and they melee. This seems to have no cooldown (as referenced from a Striker), meaning the only drawback is having to sprint. The only problem with that is if there is a group around the people you want to kill. But seriously, how often do you see that unless it's Control? Not very often (or not in my experience anyways [I never see any team players]). This also isn't so great. Now let's go on to Hunters. The only good thing Hunters get are throwing knives, which take skill to use (unless you're close range). Once you're good enough with them, you can use Knife Juggler to reset its cooldown, that is if you can get good enough with it. Blink Strike is decent, but it still isn't as long range as a Warlock's. You can use Backstab, but who would choose Backstab over Fast Twitch (I mean come on, five second cooldown!)? Even so, Backstab only works on the enemy's back, which means you have to get behind them, which means you will also appear on the radar unless you cloak and run up behind them. That could work, unless you get spotted by another enemy (it doesn't make you completely invisible), then you can kiss your rear good bye because you're focusing one guy, while another guy will shoot you. It also isn't a good idea when they have a shotgun, because you'll most likely die. Now, on to stat specs. Titans spec for armor, Warlocks spec for recovery, and Hunters spec for agility. If a Hunter fully specs in agility, what combat bonuses will that give him? Well increased jump height really isn't a good idea for fighting because it leaves you in the air longer, and running faster will get you closer to an enemy to either melee or use a shotgun, but there's a downside to that. It leaves you having almost no armor or recovery, or both. That means if you rush towards someone, they will most likely kill you before you even get close to them. This is kind of the same with PvE. Agility just isn't as useful as Armor and Recovery inside of combat. It's only use is outside of combat. This means that the only way a Hunter can really come out with anything good is by trying his/her best to go with Armor and Recovery as much as he/she can. Even then it isn't as much as a Titan or Warlock. This leaves the Hunter with one option in terms of combat: long-range fighting. This also leaves a hole in your defenses since you will need to use either a scout rifle with a good scope, or a sniper rifle. Unless you have the Third Eye perk, or the Knucklehead Radar (which only works for primaries), you're out of the job. Now can Hunters still do good in Crucible if they dodge a lot? Kind of, yes. But not as much as Warlocks and Titans with their overwhelming power and defenses. Now another thing is the damage resistance with Bladedancer's Arc Blade. They say we get damage resistance, yet we can still be one-shotted by Shoulder Charge, the other classes supers, a shotgun to the face, a headshot from a sniper rifle, and a rocket launcher. The only "resistance" we're really getting is from small-arms weaponry such as assault rifles, scout rifles and hand cannons. Then there's also the few seconds long animation time which leaves us open. We won't survive long. Now you may begin posting rage comments like I know a lot of you will do. Constructive criticism is more appreciated than mindless ranting, though.

The hunters grenades are crap and need a buff but besides that all is fair, everyone has their advantages in crucible by class, you have three character slots you can use them all.

  • Lol'd hard at Hunters underpowered. There is no such thing in the Crucible, for the Crucible is perfectly balanced.

    • Lol Titan better than a hunter that's funny. Armor and etc don't matter in crucible. All we have is shoulder charge and FoH. We don't even get the commonly overlooked but extremely useful blink ability. (Escapes and evades) Titans were definitely the last class on the drawing board when devs thought of classes

    • Hunters may be the most well rounded class in the game. At least for pvp. Both subclasses are offense oriented. let's face it with the lack of communication in pvp playing with randoms and trying to effectively use defensive subclass like WoD and not being able to communicate with teammates makes it very frustrating. I agree with most that blade dancer is OP which is why I do not use it. Gunslinger is a fair class. No buffs that matter, throwing knives that are difficult to land headshots. (Still not a ohk like Titan shoulder charge) underpowered grenades and a golden gun that is "harder" to use than other supers. Still, I do not consider it UP because it fits my play style and I do well with it. I personally think Titan is the weakest choice for pvp for casual players and blade dancer the best choice for casuals. Which is why we see so many of them. I honestly think the biggest problem is with how often we can use supers...they should be game changers that can be activated once maybe twice a game if you are playing well. Not four times a game for easy kills. Almost seems like someone always has a super activated at some point and it makes the game hectic and non skill based. We need more of an emphasis on map control and heavy ammo. Maybe then we would really see how imbalanced the primary weapons are. I'm talking to you scout and pulse rifles. Basically what I'm saying is crucible is pleasing to casual players and broken for competitive ones. I know it'll never be truly balanced but there is a lot that could be done to help it out. My guess is if you aren't doing well with hunter you need to try a new class. And if you still can't do any better, try playing with friends or people with a mic. And if that doesn't work, just practice and get better.

        • need people for PvP (PS3).I play mostly PvP and just the hard pve modes so I'm playing PvP 75% of the time but the problem is I'm in a clan and allied with a couple other clans but no one plays PvP regularly like I do so I end up playing by myself constantly. My proposition is if you play mostly PvP and have a MIC add me and we will run in a group. PSN: jscrazzy Comment so I know your sending a request Ps. I'm lvl 30 hunter and 27warlock play PvP w/ hunter

Everyone is complaining about the blade dancer...It takes one fusion rifle shot to kill him, 2 shotgun shots, or 5 pulse rifle shots, and if multiple ppl shot the guy and not run, it'll take 3 sec to kill him. Hunters are underpowered, I have no fear of the blade dancer since I myself use the hunter. The Blade dancer is ineffective at range because multiple ppl can easily shoot at u and EVERYONE KNOWS U HAVE YOUR POWER. U don't know if a Warlock or Titan has their power by looking at them but you can see blade dancer and golden gun from across the map. Even the golden gun is underpowered because u only have 3 shots, a timer, and it's very easy to miss at range. U can't complain about any thing the hunter has not dealing with his superpower because our superpower is the only good thing we have, which still sucks. Especially since we have to do a super saiyan entrance to our power which u can be easily killed while doing. At least make the throwing knife 1 hit. The Sunsinger can RESURRECT himself, melee someone and gain a shield, aim his weapon and hold himself in the air, has the possibility to generate orbs just from killing someone with his melee, BURN SOMEONE WITH HIS MELEE and NOT TO METION EXPLODE SOMEONE WITH HIS MELEE. And radiant skin reduces his incoming damage.....enough said when I brought up resurrection. The Voidwalker can drain energy or choose the option to move faster, have faster reload speed and aim down sights, or choose the option to STEAL LIFE with his melee. He has an ability to create the Energy Drain affect with a nova bomb or a grenade and he has an ability that causes the Nova Bomb to track ppl WHILE IT'S SPLIT INTO 3. Not to mention the nova bomb doesn't have to directly hit you to kill you. The Nova bomb can hit the wall behind you, causing you and anyone in the vicinity to die. The Titan...All he has to do is run and he earns a 1 hit melee. He can put up a shield where he can walk out of and have overpowered weapons as soon as he walks out...meaning that he can stand right by the shield and retreat as soon as he is about to die. I've died by a Titan Fist of Havoc throw a wall, and u can get hit with it while you're in the air (even after u use the gunslinger triple jump or gliding with the Warlock).............anyone with a Titan cannot speak to me about powers. I don't even need to talk about the Titan any further.

              • This title and subject content is just as dumb as the bladedancer OP thread. If you know what you doing you are strong....if you dont know you die. Sure Hunter subclasses dont have the best all around assets Warlocks and Titans have but if you know your class you will do fine. I swear all these issues all over this forum are L2P problems as a whole even if some things are more effective than others. Fighting a titan? Dont ever let him get close. Fighting a warlock? Stay at mid range to try and avoid nade and energy drain/scorch. Fighting a hunter? Aim properly and make sure to get the first hit they have low armor.

I created a bladedancer hunter because they seemed so lethal in pvp while playing my titan. Playing nearly only pvp(pvp only since level 5) I have leveled him level 15 in just 25 games. I have amassed a 1.15 k/d ratio despite only just unlocking my first last row perk the last time I played him and being matched mostly with and against level 25+. Speed is a great aid in positioning which is really the most important part of pvp since the difference between a max toughness player and a min toughness player is like 3 auto rifle bullets and is 0 at melee range with a shotgun. The combination of a sticky grenade, long range melee, current opness of auto rifles and shotguns and most destructive super in the game make bladedancers easily the best class in the game currently for pvp. I can't speak to gunslinger as I have played bladedancer exclusively. One thing to as a Titan main is that shoulder charge require running in a straight line so it is not as easy to pull off as you might think. If you see a titan running straight at you, strafe to the right or left and he will either turn and lose the charge or miss the shoulder charge and be vulnerable for its duration. Also never enter the bubble shield of a defender if you see his get an overshield the second hes casts it, it will take at least 3 people to take him down in there.

                • This post is still cracking me up! Imagine you're playing a WW2 shooter. You've got a single shot rifle. They've got single shot rifles. You're running around shooting people. It's fun. It's maintains its fun do to balance. Then a f***ing dinosaur appears on the map. That's what fighting a blade dancer feels like... It's like a velociraptor appeared on the map out of nowhere. You're screaming "Shoot her! Shooooot her!!". Your friends are screaming as they die. Next thing you know, your entire team is wiped and you're staring at the respawn screen. It's like fighting a velociraptor. ...In a WW2 shooter. Just because one time out of fifty a Hunter shakes the lag tree and doesn't get 5-6 kills.... actually gets one shotted by a shotty... actually gets one shotted by a 1 hit kill melee, you try and claim "underpowered"! ...completely ignoring the 10+ easy mode kills it nets you in a match.

                  • Aside from agility the hunter gets damage and stealth. Better agility allows you to move more and therefore dodge bullets more or you can call it strafing. Sure, this class wont benifit from getting up in someones face, but what it does benifit from is either not letting the enemy hit you or not letting the enemy know there is something to hit.

Also you comment about no one working together in the crucible is also wrong I run in to groups of three or more all the time and when I'm playing with my friends we run in two man groups with 2 snipers and with everyone else we run and autorifle with a shotgunner

as a maxed sunsinger, Seeing a glowing blade dancer bull rushing me arc-blades out is the absolutely most terrifying thing i ever encounter while during the crucible and i usually run for my life or hurl every ounce of power i can at him to kill him before i die and i scream BLADEDANCER in my mic at my teammates in the similar fashion my girlfriend screams at me to kill a spider.

                          • No one is stopping you from using other specs. I spec armor as a warlock. Also, someone landing a head shot with a sniper, or swapping weapons fast enough to blast you in the face with a shot gun means you are popping your super too early, or they are getting extremely lucky. Talking about melees, you should be jumping away and shooting well before someone is able to land 2 melees on you, unless its arcblade then your whole team is dead before you know what happened.
