Anyone: why don't Christians kill their children?

Please watch the video before posting. Not trying to bash anyone, here, but I honestly don't see a good refutation to this.

  • Because religion is one giant self contradictory concept and if you try to challenge it as such, you're wrong. I try to not get involved in religious debates.

    • Intriguing video. However, as it is almost 1 in the morning I don't have the time not ability to give it deep thought. My only counterpoint currently is that his logic in solution (or whatever he called it) A. is wrong. He states that he believes a Christian's priority should be their own children before God. This is false. This is clearly stated in Matthew 22:37-38, where Jesus states that the greatest and foremost commandment is to "...love The Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. (NASB)" Additionally, in Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (NASB)" Therefore, Christians should indeed put God before anyone/anything else, including their own children. So, when God says "You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13 NASB)" this means that, regardless of the risk of your children going to Hell, whether that risk is large or small, you are not to kill them.

          • He's assuming babies have not sinned, but forgot that in Christianity, we are all born as sinners. You have to work to get into Heaven, and a Christian who kills their child not only damns themselves to Hell, but also their kid.

Premise 1 is inaccurate; generally, modern Christians believe children that die before a certain, undefined age go to heaven out of the mercy of God. A more mystic belief is that they go to a non-Purgatory, temporary realm that's neither heaven nor hell. Premise 4 is flawed because loving others more than yourself does not mean sacrificing your own salvation. You'll notice that Jesus never sinned to save anyone. In addition, Premise 3 is incorrect because Christian doctrine is generally of justification by faith, meaning that a mother that kills her children may very well go to heaven. However, following this reasoning indicates the person never really understood their faith. So the only correct premise is #2, and the logically appropriate action a Christian should take would be to help guide their children spiritually. At face-value this question sounds somewhat reasonable, but it really just doesn't hold up to even the slightest scrutiny. I would argue that most Christians do not, in fact, believe 1-3 are true.

                      • 5 doesn't follow from 4 because you're comparing certainties with possibilities. You'd need to quantify the value difference between their child going to hell and themself going to hell, and how that should vary based on probabilities, both of the child going to hell if they do nothing and themself going to hell regardless of their action. It's a flawed argument, even without bringing up the fact that premise 1 is not a universal truth among Christians.

                            • I don't either. But maybe the parents would rather not kill their children but rather let them live out a long and fruitful life and leave it up to their own decisions about whether or not they want to go to hell via sin rather than remove the choice from their hands. It's up the kids when they're adults and if you love your kids you'd let them make that choice and sleep in the bed that they made. Killing them removes that choice. Doing something bad is logically worse than letting something bad take its natural course... :/

                            • Because god has a meaning behind everyone's life on earth. As I remember it. If you kill your children then you're completely wasting the time and effort of birthing them as well as god's plan for them.

                                • In a way, Christians can and do kill their children, by resorting to prayer as opposed to taking action.

                                • I don't think any christian or anyone thinks like this. Most everyone love their children to death and the thought of killing them won't enter their mind. I said most but there are some psychos out there who will do it.

                                  • maybe, its because if htey're children stay christian, and they don't kill them, they're all in heaven, I don't know, Heaven is a sad thing though.

She "loved" her children, but not enough to raise them, and let them choose heaven over hell. Love isn't just about preservation. Say you love someone, that doesn't want to live anymore, are you going to love them enough to let them decide? or only up to the point that suits your desires? Or instead of death, lets say it's location. Maybe they don't want to be in that town anymore, are you going to force them to stay against their will because you "love" them?

Two issues. 1. There's a commandment saying not to kill. 2. You're born into the world with sin. So killing them before they can sin is non-existent.

I've pointed this kind of thing out for awhile. Really, they should worship murderers for sacrificing their own places in heaven so that their victims get to go early. Oh wait....
