There are four quite different looking versions of the Fallen. The one above plus these three:
the first version looks WWII-soviet-gritty, the second like steam punk aliens, the third like space ninjas and the fourth like fantasy creatures. Yes, they all look very similar, but imo the style in the various pictures is very different.
Are these just different stages in the character creation process or are there really four (or more) versions of the Fallen in the game?

Different houses maybe ?

The sculpture one is my favorite. I hope they go with that one. The fallen remind me of the Sangheili. Funny that the elites were once the top military force of the covenant and now they have fallen from that rank and replaced with the brutes.(love Halo 2) maybe something similar happened to them?
-
While I am inclined to believe that these variations are accounted for by the rank of the Fallen, I do see your perspective that the designs seem to conflict each other in terms of style. I hadn't really noticed that before this thread. This is going to bother me a lot now.

Different ranks ?
-
Well, think about the grunts. There's like, ones with yellow orange backpacks, there's ones with red two pronged backpacks, there's ones with white backpacks and space helmets, there's ones with green circular backpacks, there's ones with black armour etc.; all of this goes towards making the grunts seem like a vibrant race with different classes, purposes, ranks, etc. and the same principle probably works with the Fallen.

Fallen 2 and 3 could be the same. and the 4th might not even be the fallen

Edited by adamj004: 2/20/2013 7:13:15 PM2 and 3 are the same as the first one, the 4th is a picture of the different species that are in the fallen faction, which is about 3 different species. Not very much at all.. Look at the covenant it has 8 species in it, 9 if you considers engineers.
-
The Fallen look all the same in all of the pictures above. The 4th picture shows different characters...the one in the front left seems to be the Hunter and not a Fallen. The middle left is a Fallen and the creatures to the right are something else. In the 3rd picture, it shows two different variations of the Fallen. Most likely different ranks within their society.

Well the obvious answer is that this is called concept art, so it is subject to change. Another thing to mention is that there will definitely be different forms of enemy from the same faction. Take Elites from Halo for example. There were Minors, Captains, Generals, Spec Ops, Zealots, and others.

Concept art over time , but the final design will look like Fallen 2 with the helmets and clothes design seen in fallen 3, there supposed to have 4 arms. Also the official leak with the fallen by the spider tank are actually Fallen. I believe that concept art was old when they released that. The fallen are shaping up to be most likely my favorite enemy just for the fact they have 4 arms , there so many things they can do to offer a challenge to the player. And i know Bungie just thinking of so many way to exploit there abilities.

Edited by sleepr28: 2/20/2013 2:31:16 PMIt's called iterating. The "Fallen 4" was their first concept probably, then they continued to improve from there until they reached the one from the pre-order poster. The cabal also looks different from the inicial concept art, they look much more awesome, the same with the Vex. You'll see the final versions on the next months, once Bungie starts doing updates.
-
As others have said it would seem these are all either concept art that has been developed or different "Ranks" for the fallen. The Fallen 3 image is probably the closest we have to a final design since those are the ones displayed on the Destiny posters throughout various game stores.

they seem to have various helmets, possibly to make them have identifiable leadership roles, etc, within their group. aside from slight differences in their outfits (which i prefer to copy and paste enemies), they all should have 4 arms, 4 eyes, etc. in the first pic, they might be keeping 1 pair under their capes, or maybe at the time that piece was created, they had not decided to give them 2 sets of arms yet. anyway, they look pretty damn mean. haha. i wonder what fighting these 4 armed guys will be like.
-
Versions 1 and 3 look the same while versions 2 and 4 look similar as well. You can't really tell using those pictures though. I'm not sure why you would want less versions of an enemy... Diversity is better instead of fighting the same looking guys over and over again.

They are all the same. It's concept art.
