Player vs Player vs Environment?

I'd participate now and then.

Sounds fun! would always do over normal patrol.

Why wasn't this here at the start?

4

Sounds like there's potential, but this needs work

5

Not to sure of the idea.

4

I don't think I'd ever do it.

Would not play, there be trolls under that bridge.

What if there was a third(ish) mode? marrying PVP and PVE. MMO's oft have something like this, usually between factions, guilds, or whatnot. Where players could attack/ambush/heckle other players during patrol? Basically, there'd be a check box before you go into patrol (or patrol gains a difficulty list, except the second difficulty just makes players able to attack players). Which puts you into another set of instances of other players who made the same decision. (this way players who don't want to put up with other people don't have to deal with it). Unless you are on a Fireteam, you can't see enemy players tags on screen, like crucible. Your Fireteam acts as your team. Maybe make some fun additions where if you kill a player wearing an opposing faction class item you gain 1 rep per kill, or that completing patrol missions while not being killed grants an extra 2 rep or something. Uses the Iron banner rules for damage against other players. Perhaps have it's own set of unique bounties. Like "Kill x Rogue Guardians" Maybe even rack up you own unique "Rep", making yourself a VIP Guardian that others get bonuses/rewards for killing you, and you gain bonus rewards for racking up such a "rep" in the first place. For bonus points, Changes to Public events. So something like Defend the Warsat, becomes king of the hill, winner gets an increased reward from Normal... and stuff like that. Mostly for stupid fun and some obvious changes (like spawns) would definitely need to be seen too. I'd expect an ultimate level of trolling. But I imagine this could breath some life into destiny, maybe even have some dedicated events for such an mode (Like Clan Wars). Now, not saying has to be be exactly this, but something along these lines would at least add something to Destiny that could be substantial, with relatively low effort from Bungie as it be mostly using a a whole lot of pre-existing assets to give us something new to do, or at least do something we've already been doing with a bit more of an edge and excitement to it. Whatcha guys think?

  • Here is a similar post with other links to related topics: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/112704163 As far as my opinion, I will quote myself from that topic:
I think it should just be an opt in/out feature in options if you would/wouldn't want to kill guardians, but it wouldn't work right away. Every time you load into any area, you pull out your ghost and hit a button to activate it and on the screen it will say "*insert name here* has become a rouge Guardian", then 5-10 seconds later, the killing can begin. Your Ghost might say something then everything will turn into darkness zone for you. Your super, grenade, and melee energy will also reset at this moment and recharge slightly slower. Any Guardian who loads in after will also get the notification in the center of their screen and their Ghost will warn them, giving them reaction time. Players will be immune to each other within this window, but won't have waypoints. If you opted in and aren't in the mood, pull out your Ghost and hit a button to not participate. Overall XP and reputation will be increased. Guardians will be worth 75 Glimmer and 25 reputation. Dying when you opt in as a rogue Guardian will respawn you somewhere else in the patrol to avoid making things awkward and grenade, melee, and super energy is reset. Pulling out your Ghost to act as a rouge guardian might be disabled for fire teams to avoid being over powering in groups or you get a slight buff and your ghost will warn you if multiple guardians have gone rogue. No respawn timer for fire teams, but reviving is enabled, only a little slower and without as much of a shield. Killing other Guardians is definitely disabled for for public events though. Defending Guardians only get 50 glimmer, 20 reputation, but get to respawn in the same area unless they also chose to be a rogue Guardian, but defending could be a safer option if passing by or waiting for a public event. Defending Guardians cannot be targeted by the same person when they (or their fire team) respawn to avoid awkwardness and spawn killing. If an attacking Guardian is killed, a message will show up for everyone else saying "*insert name here* was consumed by the Darkness" as a reminder of what happens without your Ghost's light (as you respawn elsewhere).
Thoughts?

    • I changed my mind while writing this. If all other pve elements were in this mixed mode, it could be awesome! Imagine a world event happening where you had to put aside your differences for the greater good! After the event though, it would be a blood bath! Fighting a rival group when all the sudden a swarm of fallen rush in and start going ape shit on your asses! Your fire team is in an intense battle with another when out of nowhere, a third fire team comes in and tries to wipe you both out! YEEEESSSSSS!

    • Sounds similar to WOW. Where you could check whether you were PVE only or would do PVE/PVP. The had several missions that involved PVP aspects like holding 3 different towers in a certain area, etc.... Could work but usually only applies to max level toons. I just remember just starting WOW a year after vanilla came out and didn't realize what all of that stuff meant, went out to do some menial missions and kept having much higher level player just come up and OHK me. Finally figured it out.
