I've done 20 vog completions and still ain't got that sniper yet! Although got the mytho so can't complain!

Nope, I've completed earlier stages several times, but not the final boss. I play Destiny (and games like it) to play with friends, and the times where I've been on at the same time as 5 friends with a large enough time window to attempt it has been rare enough to only have had a shot at it a handful of times. And even if I had completed it, the drops are still completely RNG, so I'd probably just have more shards . . . . I might try DestinyLFG at some point, but my experience with PUGs in WoW and the maturity level of xbox game lobbies in general does not give me high hopes for an LFG increasing my chances at raid completion.
