Ignorant comment. Self res has the added benefit of grenade spam and the ability to generate orbs. Even without self res it's a very useful tool to help the team recharge their supers. I typically use it to kill thralls at Crota to help my team out as its way more useful than Voidwalker.
I agree its useless in PvP though.

I agree, but Song of Flame and Radiant Skin are pretty useless to be honest. You can get the reduced damage with Scorch and even with reduced damage it's not as beneficial as revive when needed. Song of Flame is redundant with the ability to generate orbs of light from Radiance. Being able to save a team from a wipe is the biggest perk. I don't see how self resurrection is selfish as high level enemies can kill an entire team with splash damage. The worst is when this happens in Nightfall....
