The only reason anime similar to Dragon Ball is the best to start with is because Dragon Ball is alot like cartoon, and it just makes the transition easier. Alot of people aren't familiar with anime, so when they watch Evangelion (example) they get confused and get mad, and decide they hate anime. But if they watch something like Dragon Ball they're like, "Wait, this is just a cartoon with a better, more in depth story, and then they get into it more, and then they're watching Robots fighting each other.
