Unfortunately the upgrade only works with DIGITAL versions of the game
The free upgrade is not available for hard copy owners as it can be exploited
The website was supplying false information by saying it works with the hard copy (unless it was talking about the expansion pass as that rl transfers no matter what)

I would say someone in the company is the ones who messed up(or changed their mind).... Bungie peps u can que in at any time ... something isn't right. I am wiling to pay something to get the game on Xbox one but full amount after dropping $100 for a limited edition is Scheiß*

The microsoft one was referring to the expansion pass The link you posted in your original OP also was referring to the expansion pass (was late when I read it so I also misread the link) But the 2nd link you posted at least mentioned that the expansion pass will be transferred
