Thank you. I think they have a great conceptual space, falling between the power of Hand Cannons and the range/precision of Scout Rifles. Their performance just doesn't match up with the expectations of their role. They just need a little tweak.
I specifically called out the lower stability for Autorifles due to a friend of mine mentioning he was able to kill an enemy player from one side of Blind Watch to the other using Shadow Price. In his words:
I was able to kill someone in the Crucible yesterday all the way from one side of Blind Watch to the other, and I'm not marking that up to any sort of unusual skill on my part. I've played a lot of FPS games and I've never played one where an assault rifle equivalent was an effective tool at that kind of distance.
I think part of the problem is that weapons will only ever drop to half their base damage regardless of distance, but the stability is just as much an issue. If I can use trigger control to fire three round bursts from an autorifle and have just as much a chance to put all three in the 10-ring with a Shadow Price as I would with a Super Pox, why would I ever use the PR? I'm giving up flexibility and close-range punch, and if all I'm getting back is a deeper mag and faster reload, that's not a good trade.
Bear in mind, Pulse Rifles don't actually tend to have deeper mags than Autorifles either. Super Pox has 7 trigger-pulls per mag, Fair and Square has 8. The lower-Impact PRs have more pulls per mag, but they are so weak as to DESPERATELY need an Impact buff. Only the highest-Impact PRs are even worth consideration right now, and they still lose out.
Auto rifles definitely need stability nerfs in PvP. They can compete with snipers, for christ's sake. People wouldn't be happy though, they are quite content with their imbalances.
Well, if they want broken weapons, screw 'em. Bungie has already made several tuning passes based on PvP imbalances, and those should continue until all weapons have a fair seat at the table. The consensus of experienced players still seems to be that Autorifles are getting too big a slice of the pie. I think (with what I feel is good backup) that Pulse Rifles are scrabbling for the crumbs. Both should change.
Thanks for the feedback Kashmir!
