I think Bungie should create a trading system in which players could trade weapons and gear for other weapons and gear. You must trade a item of equal rarity with another player(For ex.: Exotic/Exotic, Legendary/Legendary). This "equal rarity" trading also assures that lower players that don't have alot of stuff don't just get stuff handed to them by a better player. This can allow unlucky players to get the weapons they want and will satisfy both players.
