Because I'm an old woman and besides the awkward conversations about why an old woman would play videogames there is the creepiness of an old woman talking to 12 year olds. At least on the forums I can pretend your all adults.

Bull shit, one of my best video game friends was an older woman and she was awesome. I get your point though, I'm a girl too and most guys are cool, but then some just go quiet and refuse to believe that female gamers play other games besides rhythm games.

I rarely ever have to craft my own gear in mmos, most of the time I just pout until someone does it for me. Actually did a test on this. I made 3 female characters and 1 male character in an mmo and by the time the females hit lvl 15 I had several offers from high lvls to help me lvl up, but on the male character I was never even spoken to.

Let me be clear I don't mean I get guys who are being jerks talking to me and generally if a guy is a jerk he is just as jerky to other guys. My experiences have been with kids that think I'm a kid and then they ask how old I am which then leads into 'no you not' and then random questions trying to catch me in a 'lie'. I am not a particularly social person anyway so unless people are talking in game stuff I get uncomfortable and just don't have much to say. As far as I am concerned gamers are gamers. I only mention old woman because it is a reason I prefer to stay quite.
