Bungie is setting this game up like an MMO. Whatever their overall story is for this universe they made they are only releasing it in pieces. Its the same thing Blizzard did with WoW, Diablo and Starcraft. The same thing Bioware did with Mass Effect and Dragon Age. They are wetting your appetite for the inevitable expansions.

Granted I agree with you guys that their story-telling isn't quite up to Bioware or Blizzard Standards, except for maybe Diablo which has a very simple story. But this is their first attempt at doing something this large so I'm willing to cut them a little slack. The game play is phenomenal, Bungie confirms that when it comes to mechanics in an FPS there's no one better even if the story is lackluster.

Yeah that's not the best examples. Destiny's story was like 5 hours tops. Mass effect 1 is like 15 at the very least. Wow is weeks long. Starcraft was like 6-8. But wasn't built for its story. The only one that can compare is Diablo. They both had the same amount of game time.

Not a great comparison by any means. All those other IPs had exceptional story telling from the start. That's what makes you want to get the next chapter. Do you want to get the next chapter of alone in the dark? Or cat woman? No. Because they sucked.

I was just wondering if you went through and played Vanilla WoW - if you didn't take the time to read any of the quest text, You were going and bum-tickling 10 monsters, for this green sword here. That's the extent of what you knew. And if you haven't played *All* the quests in an area, the quests in the next area make no sense, since they tend to blend in. As far as comparisons to ME and DA - I'll give you that, since Bioware has been doing Story-Driven games since Time Immemorial, but their gameplay has always been lackluster, wooden, and easy to just click once and go. Bungie has told stories like this before (Halo, Marathon, and other games that have books and other media the public has to go look through), and people often applaud them for it, because it makes them appreciate it. And it allows them to focus on tightening up the gameplay, so it's smooth and delicious like Destiny's. And I don't know about you, but there's a couple of Grimoire cards that make me feel for characters I've never even met or heard of. Also... I liked Alone in the Dark... Cat woman could rot in a pool.

I played through vanilla wow and right through cata. I did read the quest lines and lore. It was deep and interesting. If you skipped it and quest grind, you get lost quickly. I did not quest grind in Destiny and the paper thin backdrop did not suck me into the universe. I found myself questioning why. Why am I here? What happen here? Who are the protagonists? What is our goal? All of that and more were left blank... and not attainable by making your own story. Wow, especially through wrath, had instances story what the world actually changed according to the factions you aligned with and the choices you made. That's my main gripe with Destiny. Grimoire cards are great and have deep if short writing. I dont like having to leave my game to read them. The game has smooth game play. But feels disjointed by having tho lane too orbit to get from place too place. I have finally reached a level where I can join in on raids. I don't know how much is left to do. Patrolling for mats and rep gets old quickly. Wow solved this by adding side quest you could pick up on the fly. The Destiny system stinks. Basically...here is a mission. Press you touch pad to see what you have to do. Sooooo deep...

To be fair, if you went through Destiny listening to all the Dialogue - and looking up the Grimoire cards (Which you could do simultaneously to your playing via App - Not Ideal, I admit.), even pay attention to the quest 'text' -- exposition rather, You can get a good sense for the world, and why you're doing something. Now - going to use a personal Example. In my house, we have 4 gamers. My father, Me, and my Little brothers. (Both a year apart, near 16,) And our experiences are split up like this. Eldest little brother: Playing on Easy, not listening to any of the dialogue, focusing on the simplistic names for everything, Couldn't get a character past lvl 5. And called the story trash. Youngest little brother: Playing on Hard, mildly listening to dialogues - often coming to me for explainations, appreciates the simplistic name. Lvl 20 titan, finds the story interesting. Me: Playing on hard, religiously gobbling up all dialogues (With subtitles on), Enjoys the simplistic names. Lvl 21 warlock, Find the story massively interesting. Father: Never played a minute of the game, Watches me play it while working on his computer. Converses with me on the game. So interested, he's talking about multiple copies for our multiple consoles. If the game is interesting enough, to draw in someone like my dad (Who's a story snob in every sense of the word [ 100% completion on every Bioware game. Constantly looking for new dialogue].), it's obviously doing something right. He even compared it to a Book series he was reading, Hard Magic. Also - most side quests in WoW were introduction to new game mechanics, or having you test out new abilities, or items they were fiddling with adding. Remember before flight paths were linked? Those were some *days* man. So - everyone has different tastes; but don't look at Destiny seeing a cup that's nearly empty. See it as a cup that's ready to be filled!
