Obviously this guy has been hurt before. He's not ready to let a Guardian into his life again. They'll just turn it upside down with whacky antics like preserving the last bastion of humanity, defending the the Traveler, or god forbid, standing against the tide of destruction the Darkness is indubitably preparing. It's just not something he can go through again.
