I think you wanted the vex to lose. You could have picked anyone else to go up against them. Any Star trek crew, Star wars character, Space balls guy, Firefly company, Lantern Core...you get the point..... but you pick the Doctor.
vex would just be another puzzle to solve.

Twice that memory serves, he has found a way around things time locked/fixed points in time. Astronaut on the beach. 50th Anniv special. Not sure if saving the family at Pompeii would count. "Everyone dying" was mentioned as being a fixed point.

You didn't specify what type of win he's suppose to have...I would say an entire race being scared of you to the point they scatter whenever your name is said a victory though. Or are we talking fixed points like the one where he was suppose to die by River Songs hands :p
