According to this IGN guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP48KHOI7_0 you can not pilot your own ship, it's just a vanity item there to look nice. While it serves this purpose very well (the ships in this game look amazing) it seems like a missed opportunity that you can't do much with it, you can customize it but it's still just a giant flying trophy on autopilot. Now you can pilot a Shrike which is basically a hoverbike, that's good. But what would be better is the ability to climb into my own ship and shoot targets on the ground, join epic air or space battles, weave between asteroids in space, and fight other players in their customized and modded ships. The game is good as it is but what would really make it the ultimate package for me would be piloting my own ship. I really hope that they will add this to the game itself or make it a DLC later on.
