Generation 7 & 8 Transition

What is everyone thinking about this time in gaming? What do you think console makers, publishers and developers are doing right, and what do you think they are doing wrong? Where do you think technology is taking gaming? How long should Generation 8 be around? In your opinion, should companies invest in ninth to tenth generations and beyond? ____________________________________________________ This transition has me intrigued and excited. I think the gaming industry is maturing. Maybe not necessarily so much with the themes of games but rather as a unique entertainment form as a whole. Gaming is far more mainstream now, than it was just a couple generations ago. It seems that technological advancement in this medium is stabilizing, allowing for more minor changes graphically. Of course, more powerful systems could be built. However, I think this is where the major console makers are making the right choices. It helps ground the generation onto a standard. The most interesting thing for me is the dual-generation multi-platform release for many titles, at least for now. This is the first time I believe we have seen this phenomenon. I am sure it won't be the last time we see it if there are more console generations. Until now games have either been last or current generation titles. They have not yet been both. If I had to guess Generation 8 won't last as long as previous generations. Technology is evolving what we play games on. We may still see more consoles in the future, but we have other ways to access games as well. Of course, we will always have personal computers geared for games. I am looking forward to see where gaming goes after this generation.
