Proxy chat should absolutely be an option. Those that don't want it can just turn it off, but the poll shows the large majority would like the option. If Bungie's vision was to have a silent game, and they still feel that way after this poll, then set the proximity chat default to "off." The rest of us can switch proximity chat to "on" and enjoy the game even more. Options are never a bad thing.
