I don't know those other people though. I haven't listened to them via the podcasts, or played with them, or had any 'connection' to them. If I threw out bungie employee names, I bet that not half are still with the company.. And while that's to be expected, game development is a high turnaround job, I just don't feel like I know bungie anymore.

No, but he had the most star power. Marty is considered one of the top video game composers of all time - his name is instantly tied to Halo and Bungie, and his music brings in plenty of money to the studio. While I'm sure Bungie could find a suitable replacement, they aren't Marty - the guy who could get Paul McCarty to collaborate with him.

The game itself will still be great. But what does this say about the company that, for so long, people praised as kind, caring, compassionate, passionate, and devoted to each other and the community?
