I thought they used the 88mm against Russia's heavy tanks?
What was the point of the existence of this weapon when the 88mm Flak served both the anti-tank and anti-aircraft roles well?

Remember 88's also served two other roles than anti tank, anti air and they were used as artillery, it was a platform that was very wide spread, instead Pak 40's were in a solid dedicated role and were in large numbers.

The FlaK 41 was made in small numbers, was prone to frequent jamming, and weren't sent outside of Germany too often. PaK 43's were expensive to manufacture and production was slow The PaK 40 was much better suited for a mobile force.
